A Is For Atom (1952)
Although the "Atoms for Peace" campaign was formally launched in 1957, corporate America began to promote peaceful uses of atomic energy as early as the first few months after Hiroshima. A Is For Atom, an artifact of this effort, takes this highly loaded and threatening issue straight to the public in an attempt to "humanize" the figure of the atom. A Is For Atom speaks of five atomic "giants" which "man has released from within the atom's heart": the warrior and destroyer, the farmer, the healer, the engineer and the research worker. Each is pictured as a majestic, shimmering outline figure towering over the earth. "But all are within man's power Ñ subject to his command," says the narrator reassuringly, and our future depends "on man's wisdom, on his firmness in the use of that power." General Electric, a long-time manufacturer of electric appliances, power generation plants, and nuclear weapon components, is staking a claim here, asserting their interest in managing and exploiting this new and bewildering technology. Its pitch: this is powerful, frightening, near-apocalyptic technology, but managed with firmness, it can be profitable and promising. This "Trust us with the control of technology, and we'll give you progress without end" pitch resembles what we've seen in films like General Motors' To New Horizons (on the Ephemeral Films disc). But the automobile, of course, wasn't a weapon of mass destruction. In its first two years of release, A Is For Atom was seen by ...
Blondie - Atomic
Blondie - Atomic "Atomic" was the third single from the 1979 album Eat to the Beat by Blondie. It was written by Debbie Harry and Jimmy Destri and the track was produced by Mike Chapman. Atomic was composed by Jimmy Destri and Debbie Harry, who (in the book "1000 UK #1 Hits" by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh) stated "He was trying to do something like Heart Of Glass, and then somehow or another we gave it the spaghetti western treatment. Before that it was just lying there like a lox. The lyrics, well, a lot of the time I would write while the band were just playing the song and trying to figure it out. I would just be scatting along with them and I would just start going, 'Ooooooh, your hair is beautiful.'" The song was produced as a mixture of new wave rock and disco which had proven to be so successful in their #1 hit from earlier in 1979, "Heart of Glass". The guitar riff is directly influenced by the one in the Neil Diamond song "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon"[citation needed]. The 1980 single version of "Atomic" was in fact a remix. The original 4:35 version as featured on the albums Eat to the Beat and 1981's The Best of Blondie opens with an intro inspired by the nursery rhyme "Three Blind Mice" and includes an instrumental break with a bass guitar solo. The 7" version mixed by Mike Chapman omits the "Three Blind Mice" intro and replaces the instrumental break with a repeat of the verse. The song reached number 1 in the UK for two weeks in February 1980 and number 39 ...

Atomic Wounds
At 89, Doctor Hida, a survivor of the 1945 atomic bomb at Hiroshima, continues to care for some of the other quarter of a million survivors. Atomic Wounds retraces his dedicated journey and highlights how the terrible danger of radiation was concealed by successive American administrations in the 50's - 70's so that nuclear power could be freely developed, with no concern for public health.
Quarks: Inside the Atom
Matter is all the stuff that we see, feel, and smell around us. By definition, matter has mass and takes up space. Matter includes substances such as water, wood, rock, metal, plastic, and air, as well as countless other materials. All types of matter are made up of tiny particles called atoms. Atoms and the sub-atomic particles they're made of are far too small to be seen, even with the most powerful microscope. Despite this, physicists have developed an understanding of the structure of these particles through experimentation and indirect observation.

Quantum Entanglement --- Atomic Structure It was during the early decades of the 19th century that the structure of atoms was coming into focus. It was known for example that a hydrogen atom contained one proton and one electron. But the scientists of the time could think of no stable arrangement of the two particles. It was known that protons in any atom were grouped in a small central region called the nucleus and that the electrons were somehow arranged at comparatively large distances outside the nucleus. But, in hydrogen, if the electron were stationary, it would fall into the nucleus since the charges on the particles would cause them to attract one another. Yet the electron couldnt be in an orbit circling the nucleus either. Circular motion requires constant acceleration of the circling body to keep it from flying away. But the electron has charge and charged particles radiate light when they are accelerating. So an electron in a circular orbit would radiate light and would spiral into the nucleus. Babybird - Atomic Soda
Just the song, an image, and the lyrics: You asked me not to speak Then kissed me on the cheek You said that I was wrong You said that I was weak I tried to think a while You said I was too long And when I tried to smile You sung this pretty song Drink this baby, it's atomic soda It'll blow your mind back to how it was Standing in the snow, icicles on your nose I felt what once was through your frozen clothes Standing on the shore, looking at the lake My arm around you won't stop you shake Drink this baby, it's atomic soda It'll blow your mind back to how it was In the Wintertime when the leaves are gone I look at you & wonder what's wrong You were so strong, I was so weak Now I can't even get you to speak Drink this baby, it's atomic soda It'll blow your mind back to how it was Back to how it was... Back to how it was...
Atomic Dog [Original Extended Version] - George Clinton (1982)
"Atomic Dog" is a song by George Clinton from his 1982 solo album "Computer Games". The track was released as a single in December of 1982. The single failed to reach the Top 100 of the Pop Chart at all, though it has arguably attained greater popular stature over the years since its release. George Clinton's P-Funk Collective reached its commercial and conceptual height in 1976 with the release of the Parliament album "Mothership Connection" and a series of spectacular concert tours. However, as the band and their concept of funk grew, the organization became entangled in internal dissension, legal disputes, and creative exhaustion. "Atomic Dog" was the P-Funk Collective's last single to reach #1 on the US R&B chart. According to Clinton, most of the song's lyrics were ad-libbed during the recording process. Although "Atomic Dog" is now regarded a classic in American popular music, and the rhythmic hook from "Atomic Dog" has been widely sampled by other musicians, it was held back from radio stations at first. George Clinton's bad reputation in the industry, his political consciousness (as seen in his previous albums and recordings), and a general move towards more youthful-looking acts, kept his songs from being circulated on radio stations. Only after very strong sales was the song finally put on the air. The single "Atomic Dog" was released in December of 1982 and reached #1 on the R&B charts, but peaked at #101 on the pop chart. Guide to Bonk Atomic Punch
So here's my first attempt at a TF2 guide. It's not really a complete, pro (at all) guide to an entire class, but rather something I've been experimenting with lately: Bonk Atomic Punch. I don't think this covers absolutely everything, but it's just a few highlights I've found with the drink, and hopefully you can enjoy it. This time, inspiration was taken from TF2 guide-master, EvilDaedalus. It's hardly as good as that, but it's an inspiration :D Music used in order: - Unreal Tournament 3 Soundtrack (UT3 GC2006), by Kevin Riepl. - L'Estasi Dell'Oro, Bandini Remix of the original by Ennio Morricone. - Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, by Monty Python.
