Asbury Park, NJ is attempting a Renaissance. The city, once a jewel on the Atlantic Ocean, has been in a steady decline since the riots in the 70's and the wide spread corruption of the local government. This is a tribute to the efforts to regain its former glory without forgetting its past. Although he may not have intended the song to mirror the revival, I find it fitting. King Crimson - Asbury Park - 1974 Live
Album USA was performed in summer of 1974 at the Casino, Asbury Park. Robert Fripp (guitar/mellotron) David Cross (violin) John Wetton (bass/vocals) Bill Bruford (drums/percussion) During the recording of Red, an exhausted Robert Fripp announced to his stunned fellow members that King Crimson was over. The group however did a final tour across the States before splitting up and going in their own directions. In effect, USA promptly became a must have for fans, and it's still a precious one nowadays, especially for historical reasons. At the time, USA was their first and last official live recording ever released in the 70's. On top of that, it took nearly 20 years before King Crimson would release some more live performances from the Larks' Tongues in Aspic-era. USA was performed in summer of 1974 at the Casino, Asbury Park.

Asbury Park, NJ 60's
What a wonderful time to be alive, and to be young enough to enjoy Asbury Park, NJ in the 60's. The boardwalks were crowded with happy people. You could smell the popcorn & cotton candy from Jay's penny arcade to the Convention Center. Who knows, maybe one day it will all come back. Although this transfer is of very low quality, the original 8mm film is still in pristine condition. I plan to have a proper transfer and repost at a later date. Stay tuned.

Southside Johnny (real name John Lyon, born December 4, 1948 in Neptune, New Jersey) is an American singer, harmonica player, and songwriter, who usually fronts his band The Asbury Jukes. Captured is the #4 track of the 1984 LP "In the heat" Lyon grew up in Ocean Grove, New Jersey and graduated from Neptune High School. As an artist, Southside Johnny first achieved prominence in the mid-1970s as the second act to emerge from the Jersey Shore music scene and be considered part of the Jersey Shore sound, following Bruce Springsteen. Southsides first three albums, I Dont Want to Go Home (1976), This Time Its For Real (1977), and Hearts of Stone (1978), were Stax-influenced R&B arranged and produced by the co-founder of the band and Springsteen confederate Steven Van Zandt and largely featured songs written by Van Zandt and/or Springsteen. The Van Zandt-written I Dont Want To Go Home became Southsides signature song, an evocative mixture of horn-based melodic riffs and sentimental lyrics. Other notable songs included The Fever,Talk to Me, This Time Its For Real, Love on the Wrong Side of Town, and the definitive version of Springsteens Hearts of Stone. Southside has long been considered the Grandfather of the New Jersey Sound. Jon bon Jovi has acknowledged Southside as his reason for singing.
