"What a Wonderful World" [1970 Spoken Introduction Version] along with Oliver Nelson's Orchestra is a song written by Bob Thiele (as George Douglas) and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released as a single in 1968. Thiele and Weiss were both prominent in the music world (Thiele as a producer and Weiss as a composer/performer). Armstrong's recording was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Intended as an antidote for the increasingly racially and politically charged climate of everyday life in the United States, the song also has a hopeful, optimistic tone with regard to the future, with reference to babies being born into the world and having much to look forward to. The song was initially offered to Tony Bennett, who turned it down. Thereafter, it was offered to Louis Armstrong. This video is an attempt to help those who have never suffered poor mental health understand what it is like to live with and have to cope with, and for those who suffer in silence to talk about it more openly. Poor mental health affects an estimated 450 million people globally. 1 in 4 adults will experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem. You more than likely know someone who has a mental health condition or has had one. It's still something which is stigmatised and seldom discussed by individuals. Most sufferers wear a public 'mask' to hide their pain or to appear 'normal'. Suicides rates show that British men are three times as likely to die by suicide than British women. It remains the most common cause of death in men under the age of 35. About 16 people out of every 100000 people take their own lives each year.In the USA it's about 11 per 100000 and in the UK aproximatley 6 per 100000. The highest suicide rate is in Russia. The Self-harm statistics for the UK show one of the highest rates in Europe: 400 per 100000 population. Self-harm is usually as a result of childhood abuse of one form or another.
