Argyll Hotel, Oban, demolition December 30 2011
Traffic came to a stand-still on numerous occasions on Friday December 30 2011 in Oban as a large part of the Argyll Hotel on The Esplanade was torn down piece by piece. The slates had previously been removed, much of the interior and most of the roof trusses, leaving just the shell to demolish. By mid-afternoon a large part of the previously Listed building was gone. Traffic was re-directed around the back of the Columba Hotel, on to the North Pier, which presented difficulties for a number of articulated lorries, which were unable to make the turn from George Street on the to North Pier. All traffic was halted while a large chimney breast and gable end in the middle of the three buildings that made up the hotel, was taken down.

Crinan Canal Argyll Scotland
Crinan Canal. Often described as the most beautiful short cut in the world. Nine miles long and every mile is a gem. Walk it or cycle and spend some time at the Crinan Canal basin. The Vital Spark sat rusting in the Crinan Canal basin for some time but it is now been looked after at Inveraray on Loch Fyne Argyll Scotland. The canal was started in 1794 and completed in 1801 by Thomas Telford. Like many Scottish projects it was finished two years late and over budget but with hindsight well worth every penny.

Yes, I know, I need a haircut. Badly. Here's a new tune I wrote a few weeks ago, called ''The Duke Of Argyll'' - it's a bit more of a folky thing - it's nice to change things up once in a while. I borrowed my friend Steven's Yamaha acoustic for this, because it has a nice deep, rich sound. So thanks to Steven for letting me borrow his guitar, and thanks to Gary McCready for recording the audio. Also, sorry for the lack of videos lately. I've been doing a lot of writing and recording recently, which hasn't left much time for videos. Hopefully that will change soon...

Clyde Ferry - Argyll Flyer
Argyll Ferries (Calmac) newest vessel now in service after some technical onboard computer delays. My first time onboard her , I was indeed impressed about her speed , especially in mid channel when she was opened up. Under a six-year contract , Argyll Ferries Ltd are able to run an extended 'passenger-only' service between Gourock and the Clyde seaside resort of Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula. Drivers going over to Cowal now have no choice but take the Western Ferries boats over to Dunoon. I thought she had broken down on the 26th July as she was sitting still in open water just off Gourock and not moving.

A cold February day and it is starting to snow. Argyll class loco "Summerlands" hauls a train of L&B rolling stock on the SLR. The Argyll has gained a matt smoke-box and roof, a Summerlands Chuffer, satin running plates and engraved nameplates from Alan Briggs. The coaches ar from Roy Woods HWLR and Roy is the steady hand at the regulator. And yes - we were cold by the end of filming!!

With a more than generous budget of half a million pounds, they poke around a Victorian castellated property set on the edge of Loch Fyne. It's an impressive pile, but will it suit potential punters? Later, Aled visits the nearby Knapdale Forest to report on the reintroduction of beavers to the area. This is produced solely to promote Aled and his music.
