This one gesture has become the symbol of change, not just in our streets, but even in our collective attitude. Over the years, the wang-wang had come to symbolize abuse of authority. It was routinely used by public officials to violate traffic laws, inconveniencing ordinary motorists—as if only the time of the powerful few, and no one else's, mattered. Instead of behaving like public servants, they acted like kings. This privilege was extended to their cronies and patrons, who moved along the streets as if they were aristocracy, indifferent to those who were forced to give way and were left behind. Abusing privilege despite promising to serve—this is the wang-wang mindset; this is the mindset of entitlement. They had no right to do this. The law authorizes only the President, the Vice President, the Senate President, the Speaker, the Chief Justice, and police vehicles, fire trucks, and ambulances to use sirens in the fulfillment of their official duties—no one else. Yet the flagrant abuse we bore witness to prompts us to ask: if they felt it their privilege to flout the simplest traffic laws, how could we expect them not to help themselves to a share of projects funded by the Filipino people? Nella mattinata del 10 febbraio us, i carabinieri hanno arrestato in Calabria, il latitante AQUINO Rocco, capo dell'omonima cosca, mentre si trovava nascosto all'interno di un bunker di piccole dimensioni, ricavato nel sottotetto della villa di Marina di Gioisa Jonica, ove vivevano i familiari. L'accesso al nascondiglio, perfettamente camuffato, era possibile utilizzando una botola attivabile tramite sofisticati congegni elettromeccanici. AQUINO Rocco, inserito nell'elenco dei latitanti più pericolosi in ambito nazionale era ricercato per associazione mafiosa, estorsione ed altro, a seguito di un provvedimento restrittivo che lo aveva raggiunto al termine della prima fase della maxi operazione "IL CRIMINE", conclusa nel mese di luglio 2010 e coordinata dalle Procure Distrettuali di Reggio Calabria e Milano. L'attività investigativa che aveva portato all'arresto di circa 300 indagati per associazione mafiosa ed altro, aveva tra l'altro delineato la figura del predetto latitante all'interno della "PROVINCIA" ed il ruolo di vertice assunto nel "LOCALE" di Marina di Gioiosa Jonica (RC). Nel successivo mese di ottobre, le indagini del ROS avevano già consentito di localizzare tre dei bunkers utilizzati dal latitante per sottrarsi alla cattura. L'intervento, eseguito dai carabinieri del ROS, del Comando Provinciale di Reggio Calabria e dello Squadrone Eliportato Cacciatori di "Calabria", costituisce un risultato di eccezionale rilevanza nell'ambito di un'ampia manovra ...

The Assassination of Ninoy Aquino
On August 21, 1983, while on his way to Manila, Aquino was accompanied by several foreign journalists to ensure his safety or, at the very least, to record events for posterity in case rumors of a planned assassination proved to be true on China Airlines Flight 811. Despite a convoy of security guards (all assigned to him by the Marcos government) and a contingent of 2000 military and police personnel on the tarmac, Aquino was fatally shot in the head as he was escorted off the airplane. Government investigators claimed that he was gunned down by Rolando Galman, who was immediately shot dead by the aviation security. No one actually identified who pulled the trigger, but Rebecca Quijano, another passenger, testified that she saw a man behind Aquino (on the stairs) point a gun at the back of his head, then there was the sound of a gunshot. A post-mortem analysis disclosed that Aquino was shot in the back of the head at close range with the bullet exiting at the chin at an angle which supported Quijano's testimony. Even more suspicions were aroused when Quijano described the assassin as wearing a military uniform. The government claimed that Aquino was killed by a Communist hitman. However, politicians and diplomats found evident contradictions between the claim and the photos and the videotape footage that documented the time before and after the shooting.
