The script was originally written by Rod Serling but had many rewrites before eventually being made. The film was ground-breaking for its prosthetic makeup techniques by artist John Chambers, and was well received by critics and audiences, launching a film franchise, including four sequels, as well as a short lived television show, animated series, comic books, various merchandising, and eventually a remake in 2001. Roddy McDowall, in particular, had a long-running relationship with the Apes series, appearing in the original series of five films (one only via stock footage from an earlier film), and also in the television series. Will Rodman (James Franco) is a scientist, currently residing in San Francisco, who is working on a cure for Alzheimer's Disease by performing tests on apes. The first test subject is a chimpanzee, named Caesar (Andy Serkis), whose parents had been captured in Africa. Rodman's "cure" not only repairs brain cells as they expected to, but it genetically modifies Caesar's way of thinking to create a new breed of ape with human-like intelligence. Caesar learns unbelievably well, but human authority orders him to be locked up. However, he eventually proves to be smart enough to escape from his cage and releases an airborne-strain of the cure that advances the intelligence of his fellow apes. Caesar soon builds an army of enhanced apes in order to overthrow humanity and assert apes as Earth's dominant species. Fight Like Apes - Knucklehead
With its macho culture, long hours and backbreaking work, power mining is no job for a lady. Or is it? A music video for a song by Fight Like Apes. I originally started the project because (a) I wanted to practise facial animation (b) I wanted to animate a choir of rock monsters and (c) there are bits in this song that sound like they're sung by rock monsters. It kind of grew out of control while I was making it and I'm not sure the "story" makes a whole lot of sense. Dammit, I got the link wrong in the credits - it's www.myspace.com for the band's site. Go on, give 'em a listen. Voices by the very talented keshen8. The mouth animation was done using Adobe Illustrator and After Effects. The technique I used was based on this tutorial: library.creativecow.net - at the end of the day, you have to draw the mouths yourself. I made 23 for this. No, I am not making my files available :P

The practice of bulldozing everything to make way for palm oil plantations has left Orang-utans without their customary habitat. "Palm oil is totally destructive. They're cutting down every single tree", complains Lone Droescher-Nieslen from the Orang-utan Survival Foundation. When the forests disappear, Orang-utans cling to any stump in the cleared land, unable to understand their homes are gone. It's left to charities to rescue the apes before the plantation workers kill them. Lone hopes she can rehabilitate the Orang-utans back into the wild.
