APACHE
www.mamarocks.com The word "apache" comes from the Yuma word for "fighting-men" and from the Zuni word meaning "enemy." The Apache tribe consists of six subtribes the Western Apache, Chiricahua, Mescalero, Jicarilla, Lipan and Kiowa. Each subtribe is from a different geographial region. They are composed of six regional groups: Western Apache - Coyotero - most of eastern Arizona which include the White Mountain, Cibuecue, San Carlos, and Northern and Southern Tonto bands. It is possible, due to their nomadic nature, that several names were used to identify the same tribe. The Anglo theory is the Apache Indian migrated to the Southwest from Northern Canada in the 1500's. The Apache indian history says it was the other way around, that most of the Athapaskan speaking people migrated to the North and a few stayed in their homeland. In any event, it is generally agreed that about 5000 Apaches lived in the Southwest at the end of the 1600 more at www.greatdreams.com

Danse apache 1934 (Apache dance, Parisian style)
This is what a real apache dance, Parisian-style, looks like. Nice period fantasy of violent French low life, filmed in British Pathe studio - with rich couple slumming and barman who doesn't bat an eyelid.Do not try this at home. Watermarked and low res, I'm afraid.

Apache Indian Resistance - Geronimo
A short explanation of the Apache Native American Indian resistance that happened in the Southwestern United States around the 1860s. There was an active slave trade in the south west that most people are unaware of. The western states were very important in the Civil War for the North. Gold from California and Silver from Nevada helped finance the war against the South. The Indians were in the path of the expanding valuable mineral hunt and settlement. One tribe that fought this expansion were the Apaches. First the Mescalero and then the Chiricahua. The Apache bands were led by Cochise, Victorio, the Chiricahua band was led by famous Geronimo. Geronimo led the most famous Native American resistance and it cost the US government over $40 Million dollars to kill 100 Indians. Geronimo was caught and forced to live in the Southeast where many of the Apaches died. Geronimo died as a captive in 1909 in Oklahoma, far from his mountain home. The speakers are Bob Haozous, a Chiricahua artist and Grace McNeley a Navajo cultural leader.

Collateral Murder - Wikileaks - Iraq
Wikileaks has obtained and decrypted this previously unreleased video footage from a US Apache helicopter in 2007. It shows Reuters journalist Namir Noor-Eldeen, driver Saeed Chmagh, and several others as the Apache shoots and kills them in a public square in Eastern Baghdad. They are apparently assumed to be insurgents. After the initial shooting, an unarmed group of adults and children in a minivan arrives on the scene and attempts to transport the wounded. They are fired upon as well. The official statement on this incident initially listed all adults as insurgents and claimed the US military did not know how the deaths ocurred. Wikileaks released this video with transcripts and a package of supporting documents on April 5th 2010 on collateralmurder.com

The Crazy Gang - Apache Dance
The Crazy Gang intro and including the speciality Apache Dance taken from Okay For Sound 1937 - ouch!!! Thanks to the research of recneps2001, in January 2008 we learned the following: They are Lucienne and Ashour, first recorded performing this speciality act in Berlin's Wintergarden Theatre in 1931, so presumably German. They are also in London in 1936 at the Palace Theatre, possibly after moving from Paris, since they are billed as French Boy and Girl. They appeared in this Crazy Gang film in 1937 after performing with them on the London stage, but the next mention of them is wartime, 1940-41, in San Francisco. Their other film performances are in Alan Dwan's 1943 Around the World and two Hollywood films in 1950, Chain Lightning (with Bogart) and Woman of Distinction, with Rosalind Russell. In 1952, they are billed in a nightclub in Boston with the surname Hockney. They may have signed off on comedian and chatshow host George Jewell's final TV show in 1954. I suspect they may be Jewish, their moves suggesting they were keeping one step ahead of Hitler. If any of their surviving family or friends have further information, or anyone can trace these film titles, I'd be pleased to hear. I can provide an address if confidentiality is required.
