Ableton Live Tutorial - Turn Any Sound Into a Pad!
Check out www.nickstutorials.com for more! Please note I had this video on Youtube for a long time but I replaced it with this version because I wanted to clean up the editing a bit. This was the first tutorial I ever did, so the sound and delivery are definitely not representative of my more recent free tutorials as well as the ones I sell at my site. Regardless, I chose to keep the video up because the previous version has gotten a lot of positive feedback and people seemed to be learning from it. Here's the description: ----------------------------- In this video, I take the sound of my thumb moving around on the microphone (shure sm57) and turn it into an atmospheric pad sound. The most important step in this process was scanning through the recorded sound and setting the loop points in such a way that the source sound became more interesting. After that, things like filters, envelopes, FM, etc. can be applied to really give it life. All manner of found sounds contain individual waveforms that are far more exotic and complex than the basic waves found in synthesizers. Sometimes this is desirable, sometimes it is not. I will continually revisit this theme in my future videos.

Dial-up sound 700% slower (Creepy)
You know how when you slow a Justin Bieber song down by 800%, you get a neat ambient track? Well if you do this kind of thing with the most horrible sound in the world OH MY GOD I CAN NEVER SLEEP AGAIN This was made with a program named PaulStretch, which can make this sort of thing from any sound files. I edited the final product a bit to remove long silences and some white noise length, and to try to even the volume out a bit. I didn't add any echo or whatnot, that's just what happens when you want to slow down a sound file without affecting the pitch or sounding like shit, so blame the program, not me. The full 30 minutes they were on stage. I apologize for any sound, shakes (it's hard to hold a camera for 30 minutes without a tripod), or other issues. I also was on the far right of the stage so my POV of Jared is blocked, but he does look at Jensen a lot to talk to him, so there are a lot of okay angles there. Plus, when Jensen looks away from Jared - it puts him to face my view.

Let's Play Stonekeep 01: Introduction
Well, here it is: my second Let's Play. I know I might be dissapointing some people who seemed keen on me doing Lands of Lore 2, but I have been having a huge amount of problems getting that to work on my machine, as well as to record it effectively. Lands of Lore 2 most certainly is on the cards and will probably be the Let's Play after this one though. This game, however, is closer to my heart and is a game that I truly cherish and hopefully, one you will learn to cherish too. Managed to make sure there wasn't any sound problems this time, simply by turning the master volume down. We'll see how this effects my mic performance, but I get the feeling a lot of my videos are going to be very large, file size.

How I Loop Using the Line 6 DL-4
I've been getting some questions on how exactly I'm making the swell/pad sounds, so I thought I'd make a video addressing it. Basically all I'm showing is that I will record an initial loop of silence. From then on, I can leave the record button on and essentially record without boundaries, and the sound will just loop over itself. I hope that makes sense... It gives me the ability to make a nice pad sound without having any sound cutoffs. Let me know if you have any questions!

[Silent letters] As a general rule, the letters having no sign on them (empty letters) must be treated as silent letters. Since they do not produce any sound of their own therefore, they should be overlooked. These silent letters generally occur when long vowel letters (Madd) Alif waw and Ya are involved. Exception to the silent letter rule is Maddah Alif refer to lesson 8. [Special rule for letter Hamza or Alif] When there is a letter Hamza or (Alif) with sukoon, it should be pronounced clearly and sharply. When a vowel sign appears over or under the letter Alif , it is in fact letter Hamza. In the copies of Middle Eastern print of Holy Quran, the letter Hamza is shown as a tiny Hamza riding over or under the letter Alif.
