Paxil SSRI Antidepressants - A brief history of Paxil SSRI antidepressants

www.paxilbirthdefectlaw.com A Brief History of Paxil, an SSRI Antidepressant Paxil is made and sold by GlaxoSmithKline, Paroxetine is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and anxiety disorders. Paroxetine was approved as Paxil in 1992 by the US FDA. In 2006, doctors issued 19.7 million Paxil prescriptions. Paxil is a potent member of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class of antidepressants. SSRIs prevent receptors in the human brain from absorbing serotonin that has already been released. Serotonin helps maintain feelings of well being, so preventing re-absorption alleviates negative feelings. Although Paxil is a very popular drug, researchers are currently trying to determine whether Paxil has caused birth defects in children born to mothers who were taking the drug while pregnant. This video was created to explain a brief history about Paxil. If you or someone you know has been injured by Paxil, contact the Rottenstein Law Group at 888-976-8529. America's addiction to dangerous SSRI's hits crisis levels Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones Monday, April 9, 2012 www.infowars.com www.prisonplanet.tv twitter.com www.facebook.com The alleged shooting of a police officer in Austin by a man taking the anti-anxiety drug Xanax is just one of a plethora of recent incidents fueled by anti-depressant pharmaceuticals -- an epidemic of mania that has swept the country. Mary O'Dell, the mother of 24-year-old Brandon Montgomery Daniel told the Associated Press that her son's role in the fatal shooting of Austin Senior Police Officer Jaime Padron was fueled by alcohol and psychotropic drugs. "She said she talked with her son Thursday evening, and that he had been taking the prescription anti-anxiety drug Xanax and drinking tequila," reports AP. "Hours later, Padron was fatally shot at a Walmart while trying to subdue a potentially intoxicated man who was later identified as Daniel, investigators said. Two employees tackled and disarmed him, then held him until help arrived." O'Dell added that Daniel was not even aware of what had taken place because "he was under the influence of tequila and Xanax." This is just one of a spate of shocking incidents over recent years in which Xanax and other similar pharmaceuticals have played a central role in triggering random violence and mania. Zoloft SSRI Antidepressant: A Brief History of Zoloft SSRI/Antidepressant

www.zoloftsertralinebirthdefects.com A big company might cut corners... and if it does, you might get hurt. The antidepressant sertraline hydrochloride—sold under the brand name Zoloft—might have caused you and your baby to suffer life-threatening side effects. If a dangerous product has harmed you or a loved one, the Rottenstein Law Group can help. Zoloft is a potent selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor manufactured and sold by American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, Inc. Available by prescription only, the medication is used to treat major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and anxiety disorders. First brought to market in 1991, Zoloft has since become a blockbuster antidepressant. Doctors wrote more than 29 million prescriptions for the drug in 2007, more than any other antidepressant that year. SSRIs work by preventing certain receptors in the human brain from absorbing serotonin that has already been released. Serotonin helps maintain feelings of well-being, so preventing its re-absorption alleviates negative feelings. Unlike other drugs (such as buproprion--also known as Wellbutrin—for example), SSRIs minimally affect noradrenaline and dopamine, which regulate stress levels. But SSRIs can cause many side effects, most common among them nausea, somnolence, and sexual dysfunction. www.youtube.com - Zoloft SSRI Antidepressant

Ask Deepak - Antidepressants That Do Not Work

What can you do when you have depression and antidepressants do not work anymore? Depression is a very complex problem. When depression is severe, you need to take antipsychotic medications. Situational or contextual depression is pretty common and they are milder versions of depression. The best way to deal with that is parceling your time correctly. Enough time allocated to sleep, to play, to exercise, to focused work time, to your relationships, and time to meditate. Among all of these exercise is extremely useful for dealing with depression. Deepak also suggests cognitive therapy  Read more on Deepak Chopra's official website: www.deepakchopra.com Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com Follow us on Facebook: www.facebook.com

Predicting Antidepressant Response: EMBARC Part 1 - Dr. McGrath

In this Video Patrick McGrath, MD, and Ramin Parsey, MD, PhD, discuss a new research study that hopes to answer the question, "Is there any way to predict antidepressant response?" Dr. Patrick McGrath is Co-director of the Depression Evaluation Service at Columbia Psychiatry and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. His co-investigator in the EMBARC study, Dr. Ramin Parsey, is Director of Brain Imaging in the MIND Division at Columbia Psychiatry and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. In this two-part video Drs. McGrath and Parsey outline the rationale for a new study to identify how researchers might predict what medications will work for individual patients with depression and the types of technologies used in the study.

Antidepressant Use Increases Significantly

A study released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention this week found that the use of antidepressants has jumped 400 percent in the past 20 years. The data found that 11 percent of those over the age of 12 have taken an antidepressant during the 2005-08 study period. David Mrazek, MD, psychiatrist at Mayo Clinic, said the study means a lot of Americans are on drugs for depression, which isn't necessarily good or bad. While it's good that people are being treated for depression, he's concerned many are on drugs that aren't working for them, or aren't on drugs that they should be. Dr. Mrazek is working to alleviate that problem by studying pharmacogenomics. Each person's genetic code is unique. Researchers focused on pharmacogenomics at Mayo Clinic are working to understand how these tiny DNA variations cause people to respond differently to medications. Dr. Mrazek has begun several new research initiatives in this area. He has collaborated with other investigators in studying various links between genomic variability and psychiatric illnesses such as depression, bipolar illness and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He reacted to the findings of the new study and talked about his research with Mayo Clinic in Toronto today at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry meeting.

Antidepressants Exposure Linked to Brain, Behavioral Abnormalities in Developing Rats

Produced by Jim Albritton | A study by researchers at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the University of California, San Francisco shows that rats given a popularly prescribed antidepressant during development exhibit brain abnormalities and behaviors characteristic of autism spectrum disorders. The findings suggest that taking a certain class of antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs during pregnancy might be one factor contributing to a dramatic rise in these developmental disorders in children. The study, funded by a 1.3 million dollar Eureka grant from the national institute of metal health appears online in the journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences at pnas.org. | umc.edu

Withdrawing from Antidepressants Can be Dangerous

www.youtube.com www.encognitive.com Prescription drugs are now one of the nation's leading killers! source Consumer Reports. The number of people needlessly hurt or killed by prescription drugs has become staggering. A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that in one year, over two million patients suffered serious drug reactions, resulting in 106000 deaths. Another article in JAMA estimated that only 1 in 20 reactions are reported. Drug makers claim that antidepressants are not "habit forming" but fail to mention that all antidepressants can cause withdrawal. People often do not realize that withdrawal is causing their symptoms. Gradual dose reduction (also know as tapering) will alleviate symptoms for most people. (For many people the reduction in dose needs to be in miniscule amounts requiring the painstaking cutting and measuring of medication.) Can Antidepressants Cause Violence?

What your Doctor isn't Telling You. Psychiatry vs. Physical Medicine Dr. Moria Dolan, Executive Director for the Medical Accountability Network discusses the link between antidepressants medications and suicide, violence and school shootings. Seung-hui Cho w/ the Virginia Tech massacre adds to a long list of incidents over the last 15 to 20 years including Columbine and Red Lake High, She also discusses antidepressant drugs like like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin. These medications are known to cause adverse events which can contribute to violence such as hallucinations, agitation, emotional instability, violence, paranoia, etc. These adverse events are clearly labeled on the FDA approved prescribing information leaflet for the medication. These labels often contain confusing medical terms and Dr. Dolan explains in plain English what these adverse events means. Although the psychiatric advertising jargon of the chemical imbalance in the brain theory is widely promoted, Dr. Dolan points out that there are no biological markers for mental disorders. There are no physical tests done to measure someone's brain chemistry. Depression is widely associated with the neurotransmitter serotonin however, there is no standard by which one can measure an abnormal serotonin level. Additionally, SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) as well as other psychiatric drugs show an affect in the brain during brain scans whereas psychiatric ...

Antidepressants Linked to Thicker Arteries

Antidepressant use has been linked to thicker arteries (bit.ly possibly contributing to the risk of heart disease and stroke. Background Antidepressants Linked to Thicker Arteries shared.web.emory.edu Antidepressant use has been linked to thicker arteries, possibly contributing to the risk of heart disease and stroke, in a study of twin veterans. The data is being presented Tuesday, April 5 at the American College of Cardiology meeting in New Orleans. Depression can heighten the risk for heart disease, but the effect of antidepressant use revealed by the study is separate and independent from depression itself, says first author Amit Shah, MD, a cardiology fellow at Emory University School of Medicine. The data suggest that antidepressants may combine with depression for a negative effect on blood vessels, he says. Shah is a researcher working with Viola Vaccarino, MD, PhD, chair of the Department of Epidemiology at Emory's Rollins School of Public Health. The study included 513 middle-aged male twins who both served in the US military during the Vietnam War. Twins are genetically the same but may be different when it comes to other risk factors such as diet, smoking and exercise, so studying them is a good way to distill out the effects of genetics, Shah says.
