South African Climate Change Comedy
MARK SAMPSON - AFRICA CLOCKWISE Is Mark Sampson's Africa Clockwise a stand-up comedy show? Or a show about taking his family in a giant green 10-ton truck around Africa in a clockwise direction? Or a show about how the wisdom of Africa can show us the way to cope with climate change? The answer is all of the above. Africa Clockwise - The Show Our ecological clock is ticking, but don't be alarmed. This laughter-packed, renewable-powered off-the-grid ECOmedy will make you feel so much better about the end of the world as we know it... Mark Sampson is a master of taking unwieldy subjects, and turning them into comedy gold. His previous hit show Missing Links explored 6 million years of evolution, while Feels Funny tackled depression -- both were sell-out successes. In Africa Clockwise, SA's most adventurous and thought-provoking comedian continues his revolutionary journey in his most demanding quest yet. Come and discover how Sampson plans to challenge his children to cope with climate change around the coast of Africa as well as challenging his audience to 'BEAT THE HEAT' as the anti-consumer host of a crazy global warming gameshow. And just because he's had a haircut, don't mention Gordon Ramsay. "Mark Sampson seeks to entertain and educate through his brand new stand-up act. Poking fun at the modern consumerist lifestyle and its impact on global warming, Sampson hilariously explores what it means to 'go green' in this day and age. Extremely funny" CUE review 2011 ...
Money Made Man Mad
Lyrics: Money Made Man Mad. Let me take you back four thousand years, to the city of Babylon. The king had found a way to make his slaves, work all day and all night long. He made bits of metal with his picture on them, and said, "Buddy if you work for these, You can buy back some of the world God made, and you can have some fruit from off His trees." CHORUS God made man, man made money. Money made man mad. (2x) The poor get poorer 'cause the rich get richer, by hoarding all their ill gotten gains. And they get a helping hand from the laws of the land. It's greed that makes us all insane. (CHORUS) People are so strange about the medium of exchange, they won't help you till you pay them back. They all just want to take a bit more of the cake. That's why this country's going to the pack. (CHORUS) But soon's the hour when those in power will be thrown down from off their chairs. And all the banks and guns and tanks will be melted down to make plow shares. Woodburn Company Stores - Oregon tourism consumerism Chomsky
NOTE: In retaliation for posting this video, and the two other videos I posted about Woodburn Company Stores, the security at the mall has taken to interrogating my former coworkers and friends at the mall, asking them about my whereabouts and current employment status, etc. Apparently, democracy and freedom of expression is not something that is welcome in the fascistic institution known as "Woodburn Company Stores." STAND UP FOR DEMOCRACY! shop@woodburncompanystores.com = = = = = In tribute to the hellish year-and-a-half that I spent working at Woodburn Company Stores in Woodburn, Oregon, I present a brief reading from Noam Chomsky's book IMPERIAL AMBITIONS, page 21. Working at the mall, I saw this passage acted out every day of my life: sad employees who are fighting a futile battle for survival; middle class people from the Portland area, British Columbia, and all over the world, devoting their lives to mindless consumerism and every manner of triviality. How many lobbyists does the industry employ?
After some questioning of John Lowe, DVM, Council Member Tony Avella posed a question to the industry: How many lobbyists does NYC's horse-drawn carriage industry employ? Industry spokesman Ian McKeever steps up to answer the question--only he refuses to do so. Seated to the left of McKeever is consultant veterinarian Dennis Farrell, DVM (barely visible). The question about lobbyists is a matter of public record. Dr. John Lowe, who traded places with McKeever during this group's testimony, had just finished explaining that he is paid by the industry to do his "inspections," a topic on which Avella exposed problems earlier. Video from the public hearing held on January 30, 2009, on two bills affecting the carriage industry in New York City: Intro. 658, which would ban the industry, and Intro. 653-A, an anti-consumer bill that would erode what little oversight the industry now has. The Bar Association of the City of New York, among other organizations, supports a ban and opposes the industry bill. VIDEO CREDIT: ANTHONY SPEZIALE

Netflix Reportedly Looking at Cable Integration
Transcript by www.newsy.com BY EVAN THOMAS ANCHOR DAVID EARL That's one way to keep consumers from cutting the cord — become the cord. Netflix is said to be meeting with cable companies with an eye on integration. Bloomberg has the details. "Netflix may be partnering with the cable giants. Now what they're going to do is potentially offer a bundled service, combining Netflix's streaming services along with their typical cable package..." The thinking goes that rolling a Netflix sub into a monthly cable charge would make consumers less likely to drop one service in favor of the other. According to PC Magazine, it would mark an about-face from Big Cable's old stance. "Some cable companies have worried that Netflix, which has been beefing up its streaming-only offerings, including original content, would cause some cable subscribers to cut the cord." And there's a bonus for those cable companies, says TechCrunch — potential profits, and good PR. "Cable providers are often looked upon as massive anti-consumer machines. By bringing Netflix into the fold, cable providers can save face and look pro-consumer for a change. Offering Netflix through their cable boxes is akin to buying innovation." But an analyst tells CNBC — Netflix might get the short end of the profits stick. "...I don't see how the economics would work. They already charge $8, so either they have to give away half of that, right, and the margin is only 11%, or they have to raise prices, and we remember how that ...

Ron Paul : The Banks Still Win in Washington!
09/17/2010 - www.RonPaul.com This past week the administration announced its choice for the first credit czar at the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This bureau was created as part of the supposed Wall Street reform bill recently passed by Congress. This new bureau, which represents nothing more than another layer of useless Washington bureaucracy, will be housed within the Federal Reserve -- one of the most anti-consumer institutions in Washington. The appointee named to run the bureau is an Ivy League professor. By her own admission she is an academic, not a business person. She has very little real world business experience with the highly complex financial instruments she will oversee. The administration has done nothing to refute her characterization by some in the financial press as an anti-business, ivory tower leftist with an aversion to free market principles. She also admits to being told, or warned, that the big banks always win in Washington - yet she trumpeted the creation of this new agency as a win against those banks. I would caution her against declaring victory too soon. Outrageously, she has been appointed as a "special advisor" to design and lead the bureau, but the administration has not disclosed the exact length of her term. There will be no Senate confirmation hearings, nor will the public or the financial industry be allowed to comment on her appointment. We simply are expected to accept the appointment of an enormously powerful ...
Woodburn Company Stores -- Woodburn Oregon class war
This shot consists of three-minute footage of I-5 and exit 271 onto Woodburn's Hwy 214. For most Woodburn area residents, this is an appropriate angle from which to view Woodburn Company Stores because for them the mall represents mostly one thing: an annoying increase in traffic. It's well known in the area that the mall was built in Woodburn because of the low real estate prices. The mall has made traffic on 214 a nightmare. In response, the City of Woodburn has blocked off certain roads, effectively closing some smaller businesses. The unemployed man sitting in the left side of the shot is a good symbol of the poverty that most mall employees live under. The average roadside panhandler makes about $30-$60 a day, which is about the amount of money most mall employees make because the jobs are only minimum wage. Most employees at the mall live in utter poverty, hardly getting by on two jobs and government assistance -- meanwhile, shoppers at the mall may pay up to $350 for a pair of name brand sunglasses. Mall management are often as cold and degrading to their retail employees as commuters are to roadside panhandlers. The cloudy sky threatening rain is a symbol for how out-of-touch Craig Realty, a California-based company, is with Oregon's weather. Many wonder why they chose to build an outdoor mall in an area that is so often rainy and cold. Lastly, Woodburn Company Stores itself is but a shiny blip in this shot, far in the background -- which is appropriate because ...

Michaud Condemns Inaction on FAA (8-3-11)
Michaud Condemns Inaction on FAA - Sends letter to airlines requesting halt to shutdown profiteering WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, Congressman Mike Michaud condemned Congress for leaving Washington before acting on a reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). According to the Consumer Union, during this FAA shutdown the government is losing about $200 million a week in airline revenue. In addition, over 90000 construction workers are out of a job and airport improvement projects throughout the country have been put on hold, including some in Maine. "I am deeply disappointed that the bipartisanship displayed on the debt reduction bill didn't extend to the FAA measure," said Michaud, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. "As a result, thousands of construction workers and FAA employees around the country are off the job. Airlines are now profiting off congressional inaction by raising ticket prices. None of this is good for the economy or the travelling public. It's unbelievable to me that Congress took off without acting on this critical measure." To break the current impasse, Michaud introduced a clean extension of FAA authority with his committee colleagues. Unfortunately, no action was taken and the shutdown will now continue through the month of August. As a result, the FAA remains unable to collect a number of fees, including those collected on the sale of each airline ticket. With few exceptions, most US carriers continue to ...

(NaturalNews) The one man who may be responsible for more food related illnesses and deaths than anyone in history, Michael R. Citizen Rebel Rants - White Washing the Asians in Asia
I was tripping through Asia and noticed the new and very disturbing marketing campaign. As their economies improve, disposal income increases, and wealth expands, they have tasked advertising agencies to sell the new products and images. What is so disturbing about that, you ask? Well, aside from the standard anti-consumer drivel, it is because the images were of light-skinned, European faced, skinny Asians in western style clothing. They are reproducing the racism of the white man in their own country. Marxists would be pleased to witness the commodification of the person of color with a new lighter wrapper. Maybe all of the advertising executives are racist, money grubbing white people who are weaving a web of consumerism that is linked to the white power and white is right movement. Why value and esteem local production and labor when the European version is vastly superior? Stop white washing the Asians. And, you Asians, stop participating in it. Geez. PBS Frontline Secret History of the Credit Card
In "Secret History of the Credit Card," FRONTLINE® and The New York Times join forces to investigate an industry few Americans fully understand. In this one-hour report, correspondent Lowell Bergman uncovers the techniques used by the industry to earn record profits and get consumers to take on more debt. "The almost magical convenience of plastic money is critical to our famously compulsive consumer economy," Bergman says. "With more than 641 million credit cards in circulation and accounting for an estimated $1.5 trillion of consumer spending, the US economy has clearly gone plastic." Millions of American families use their personal, general-purpose credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover to make ends meet; credit cards have been a discreet lifeline for families in financial straits. But other consumers, like actor and author Ben Stein, use plastic purely for convenience. While it would appear that Stein -- who says he charges a small fortune every month on his credit cards -- is the ideal customer, in reality, he is what some in the industry call a "deadbeat." That's because he pays his balance in full every month. The industry's most profitable customers, the ones being sought by creative marketing tactics, are the "revolvers:" the estimated 115 million Americans who carry monthly credit card debt. Ed Yingling, incoming president of the American Bankers Association, tells FRONTLINE that revolvers are "the sweet spot" of the banking ...

Citizen Rebel Rants - Globalization Activists Tricked Again
Globalization activists are tricked into diminishing regulatory and compliance standards in their own country while they attempt to establish those same standards in a banana republic. Another shell game of misdirection, manipulation, and misplaced energy. It's a trick, yo. Are you aware of the state of corruption in your own country with regards to consumer and labor protection? Do you take those recent historical "standards" for granted in your own country? Do you believe that once a policy is enacted it can no longer be subverted or eliminated? Do you believe that citizen protection related legislation in your own country is not under direct attack via corruption, political appointments, underfunding manipulations, and similar strategies? You probably believe in a legislative and economic myth. Here is a quick reminder. The Reagan-Bush deregulation era permitted the corporations to eliminate good governance, pass on the costs of R&D to the taxpayer, and increased their subsidies in various guises. For example, the pharmaceutical industry was required to prove that their drugs were not harmful PRIOR to submitting the FDA for review. The burden of proof was for the private sector to demonstrate through medically acceptable research practices. Reagan decided that the FDA should be the entity that proves whether a drug is safe by conducting that research - with taxpayer money, of course. He then reduced the budget to the FDA. And, then he appointed a Republican anti ...
Reform #s 31 & 32: Health Savings Accounts to Provide Affordable Health Care
Reform #31: Expand Availability of Health Savings Accounts for Individuals and Small Businesses & Reform #32: Piolot Health Savings Accounts for Optional Medicaid Populations to Increase Wellness and Contain Costs (from Putting Michigan Back to Work, The First Steps) With the rising cost of health care, health savings accounts represent one way for small businesses and individuals to acquire quality health care at an affordable price. Mike Cox will create tax incentives for businesses that provide HSAs to their employees and will assist self-employed residents who want to create HSAs. Cox will also examine transferring a pilot group of Medicaid clients, such as 19-20-year-old Medicaid recipients and Caretaker Relative populations, from traditional Medicaid coverage and provide those individuals with HSAs. The move will improve wellness, drive down the cost of health care and trim government spending. In March, Cox filed a lawsuit to stop President Obama and House Speaker Pelosis massive federal health care bill because it oversteps Congresss Constitutional authority and for the first time ever forces Michigan residents to purchase a product as the price of citizenship. The bill also includes trillions of dollars in federal spending, at least 88 new government programs and nearly 1700 new sets of regulations. "Never before in our history have you had to buy something as the price of citizenship," Cox said recently. "This is an unprecedented overreach by Congress and the ...

STAND UP FOR DEMOCRACY! shop@woodburncompanystores.com = = = = = Woodburn Company Stores is a outlet mall in Woodburn, Oregon. It is one of Oregon's most popular tourist attractions. The experience of the average employee of the mall, however, is almost without exception a negative one. Employee morale at the mall is extremely low, and most who work at the mall are paid minimum wage and live lives akin to those described in the book Nickel and Dimed. It is likely that morale at the mall among employees is very low because the stores within the mall are owned by transnational corporations that view their employees as liabilities that can be replaced instantly. Additionally, the mall is heavily micro-managed by the inner clique in the mall administration. For example, despite the fact that all stores in the mall pay a (relatively high) rental fee, the corporate administration of the mall dictates that stores are fined if they do not open at designated ...

However, I was at a loss to refute some of their claims. Below are some of their main points. Maybe you could give me some fuel to beef up my arguement? 1. Capitalism gives people incentive to produce, innovate, work, both monetarily and in class status. Other systems do not and cannot produce good incentive. Reform #29: Expand Drug Pricing Website to Help Seniors, Uninsured Save Thousands on Prescriptions
Reform #29: Expand Drug Pricing Website to Help Seniors, Uninsured Save Thousands on Prescriptions By giving seniors and families the ability to comparison shop for their prescription drug needs we can improve access to life saving medicines and keep more money in residents pocketbooks, said Cox. There are a wide variety of ways we can provide more affordable health care without trampling the Constitution like President Obama and Speaker Pelosi. As Governor I will double the number of drugs listed on MichiganDrugPrices.com and include generics to help drive down prices and empower consumers. MichiganDrugPrices.com lists 150 commonly prescribed drugs, allowing residents to comparison shop for their prescription needs, potentially saving thousands of dollars every year. Cox helped launch the drug pricing website in 2006, fought to expand the number of drugs featured on the site to 150 in 2007 and has consistently fought to further expand the number of drugs listed. The Granholm administration refuses to expand the site but that will change after Cox is elected Governor. In March, Cox filed a lawsuit to stop President Obama and House Speaker Pelosis massive federal health care bill because it oversteps Congresss Constitutional authority and for the first time ever forces Michigan residents to purchase a product as the price of citizenship.
