Armik ~ For Annette

Flowers and Women Photographs with Fabian's artwork~I took all the photographs. I liked the thought of placing the artwork among my photographs. The flowers you see are from my yard or hometown. I am lucky to live in a place with such beauty and happy to share it. I hope you enjoy it. Music~Armik: New flamenco guitarist Armik displayed an interest in and passion for music while still a young child. When he was just seven years old, he pawned his watch for a classical guitar, which he hid and practiced on in the basement. Formal music lessons followed and Armik completed the Rudolph Solphege program in two years; at 12, he was a professional recording artist. While his early career focused mostly on jazz, Armik discovered the beauty and passion of flamenco while visiting and studying in Spain during the '70s. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue this new direction, playing with other artists live and in the studio. By 1994 he released his solo debut album, Rain Dancer, a critical and commercial success that he followed with 1995's Gypsy Flame. At this point, Armik's reputation as a performer and student of flamenco was such that expert Spanish luthier Pedro Maldonado created an instrument for him, the Rubia; Armik's 1996 album was recorded with and named after it. The following year saw the release of Malaga, and his fifth album, Isla del Sol, appeared in 1999, followed by Rosas del Amor in the spring of 2001. Released in 2002, Lost in Paradise showed him making a sensual and ...

Song from the album Decoration Day Lyrics: Me and my Annette, we was as fond as we could be We was set to marry in October 33 I set my sights on courtin her, as fine as she could be I never ever noticed her best friend Marilee Took a job at the saw mill and I bought my girl a ring, Had a pre-wedding party, close friends and family Everything was fine, eatin homemade ice cream I swear I never noticed maid of honor, Marilee My Sweet Annette was left standing at the alter.(2x) Marilee was taken ill, it was several miles from home Back then it wasnt fittin for a girl to leave alone Sweet Annette, she asked me to walk her to the door As innocent as children back before the war My Sweet Annette was left standing at the alter. (2x) Lord have mercy for what we done, Lord have mercy when to people get alone Neither one of us had done anything like that you see By the next sunset, I had eloped with Marilee. (3x) My Sweet Annette was left standing at the alter.

Annette Funicello - Toot Sweet

A collage of Annette Funicello photos with Annette recording "It's Really Love" by Paul Anka in 1959, a reworking of an earlier Paul Anka song called "Toot Sweet"; Anka reworked the song for a third time in 1962 as "Johnny's Theme" and it opened The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson on television for the next three decades. When she was cast in her first beach movie, Walt Disney reportedly requested that she only wear modest bathing suits and keep her navel hidden. However, Annette wore a two piece fishnet suit in the second film (Muscle Beach Party) and a blue and white bikini in the third (Bikini Beach). Both swimsuits showed her navel, particularly in Bikini Beach, where it is visible extensively during close up shots in a sequence early in the film 1 photo used with permission of boomers-fifties-pinups.com

Annette Funicello - Tall Paul

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com The "sweetheart" of TV's The Mickey Mouse Club, American entertainer Annette Funicello began performing at age 10. The Disney people themselves sensed that Funicello had star quality, building several musical numbers around her on The Mickey Mouse Club and fashioning her own Club show-within-a-show miniseries, appropriately titled "Annette." Funicello's post-Mickey Mouse career was far more successful than that of many of her fellow Mouseketeers--and the reasons cannot be charged up to looks alone. She also was guest-starred on the Disney TV series Zorro and Wonderful World of Color, and was given sizeable roles in such Disney theatrical features as The Shaggy Dog (59) and Babes in Toyland (61). While still under contract to Disney, Funicello began appearing in American-International's Beach Party series, usually co-starring with Frankie Avalon. Though these films were distinguished by undulating, bikinied females, Walt Disney decreed that Funicello never be involved in any "suggestive" sequences--nor were her two-piece bathing suits permitted to uncover her navel. After playing an extended cameo role as Davy Jones' sweetheart in The Monkees' film vehicle Head (68), Funicello cut down on her professional appearances, preferring to spend time with her family. During the 1970s, she ...

Annette Hanshaw - Lover Come Back To Me (1929)

Annette Hanshaw (oct.18.1901 - mar.13.1985) was one of the first great female jazz singers. In the late 1920s she ranked alongside Ethel Waters, Bessie Smith and the Boswell Sisters. Her singing style was relaxed and suited the new jazz-influenced pop music of the late 1920s. Although she had a low opinion of her own singing, she continues to have fans because of how she combined the voice of an ingenue with the spirit of a flapper. ---------------------------------------------------- Eddie Lang (okt.25,1902 - mar.26,1933) He was the first Jazz guitar virtuoso. A boyhood friend of Joe Venuti, Lang took violin lessons for 11 years but switched to guitar before he turned professional in 1924 with the Mound City Blue Blowers. He was soon in great demand for recording dates, both in the jazz world and in pop settings. His sophisticated European sounding chord patterns made him a unique accompanist, but he was also a fine soloist. from "The New Moon" Annette Hanshaw - Lover Come Back To Me 3-15-1929 Columbia 1769-D

Annette Hanshaw - Under The Moon (1932)

Annette Hanshaw was a popular singer and radio star of the 1920s and early Thirties who had many Jazz overtones in her singing style. She stepped out of her role of a torch singer and improvised and had a great deal of swing that harkened to the Big Band singers of the 1930s. She was viewed by the public as the epitome of a flapper. Many of her early records feature many of the hot White players of the day like Red Nichols, Miff Mole, Phil Napoleon, Joe Venuti, Eddie Lang, Adrian Rollini, Vic Berton, Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey and Jack Teagarden. Hanshaw was billed as "The Personality Girl," and her trademark was girlishly saying "That's all" at the end of a lot of her records. Hanshaw recorded under a number of pseudonyms which included Ethel Bingham, Dot Dare, Gay Ellis, Marion Lee, Janet Shaw, Lelia Sandford and Patsy Young. Annette never thought much of her abilities as a singer and retired from showbiz in 1935. Joe Venuti was born on a ship on the way to the USA from Italy and became, in many circles, THE great jazz violinist. Eddie Lang (who was also known as Blind Willie Dunn) was a boyhood friend of Venuti, and was the first great jazz guitarist. Lang died in 1933 as the result of a botched tonsillectomy, which operation had been taken at the urging of his friend, Bing Crosby. Eddie Lang (October 25, 1902 - March 26, 1933) was an American jazz guitarist, considered by many[citation needed] to be the finest of his era, and to be the greatest rhythm ...

Here is Jack Benny years before radio, and "Babe" Blake singing the Annette Hanshaw hit, "Mean to Me" with the composer Fred Alhert at the piano! Did she make records and sing on the radio? If so I don't know. Maybe she was a flash in the pan. If she sounds like an imitator of Helen Kane, thats because she was! She's got the total baby vamp voice, but kindly left the boop a doops to Helen! Enjoy! Benny was a popular MC discovered by MGM scouts who saw him at the Los Angeles Orpheum Theater. He was signed to a one year contract to MC all the proposed musical pictures like the Hollywood Revue. Did you know that the 30s anthem "Happy Days Are Here Again" came from a Jack Benny movie? It sure did, written for his next picture, "Chasing Rainbows".
