ANDY WHITFIELD (1972 - 2011) RIP (IN HIS OWN WORDS)
Andy Whitfield the 39 year old star of "Spartacus:Blood and Sand" has passed away..Whitfield was born in Amlwch, Anglesey and studied engineering at the University of Sheffield and worked in London as an engineer before moving to Sydney in 1999., He attended Screenwise Film & TV School for Actors, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.He has appeared in several Australian television series, such as Opening Up, All Saints, The Strip, Packed to the Rafters and McLeod's Daughters. He gained his first prominent role in the Australian supernatural film Gabriel. Whitfield also starred in the 2010 television series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, which is filmed in New Zealand. He played the part of Spartacus, a soldier condemned to fight as a gladiator and who ultimately leads a rebellion against the Romans (the Third Servile War). Whitfield also appears in the upcoming Australian thriller The Clinic starring opposite Tabrett Bethell (of Legend of the Seeker fame) which was shot in Deniliquin. In August 2010, Whitfield teamed up with Freddie Wong and created a 2 minute long YouTube video named "Time Crisis", based on the game Time Crisis. Whitfield made a brief appearance in the prequel mini-series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, which premiered on January 21, 2011.....In March 2010, Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, beginning treatment immediately in New Zealand.[This delayed production of season two of Spartacus: Blood and Sand.Whitfield succumbed to non-Hodgkin ...

Andy Whitfield died today in Sydney, Australia. He was 39. He played Spartacus in the Starz cable series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand." "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Andy Whitfield," Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement Sunday night. "We were fortunate to have worked with Andy in `Spartacus' and came to know that the man who played a champion on-screen was also a champion in his own life." Another talented actor, gone too soon. I've been a huge fan of Andy's for awhile now and was absolutely devastated to learn of his passing on Sunday. Andy was an incredible actor and from what I've heard an even more incredible person. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. Former 'Spartacus' Star Andy Whitfield Dies of Cancer Aged 39 RIP
Here are the facts: Whitfield was diagnosed with the disease in March 2010. The lymphoma was discovered during a routine checkup and was thought to be treatable. By May of last year, tests on Whitfield indicated no cancer in the actor's system, and a few weeks later, he completed his treatment. In fact, the actor was feeling so good that he gave an interview to Deadline Hollywood, saying, "I'm raring to go."
