Red and Rio Grande - Doug Supernaw
Doug Supernaw hasn't been on the country charts too recently, but in his early days he made some good music. This song, which I got off the Encore Collection album, is an ode to Texas, the lone star state. Texans seem to have a higher sense of pride about their state (eg "Don't Mess With Texas") than other places I've traveled to. I've actually never been to Texas, and I'm sure it has plenty of downsides, but these pictures and music attempt to highlight the good things about Texas.

Cruise I took to visit Taos New Mexico and the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge over the February 28th weekend 2010. I was going to also take a couple video clips at the Taos Pueblo but decided not to after seeing a Pueblo cop busting a tourist ahead of me for a speeding ticket. And he was traveling slow from what I witnessed. Just killed my interest to visit. I lost my taste for spending 15 to 20 bucks to get in just to take a minute or so video clip if you know what I mean. Just like that poor Joe I've been victimized myself in the past. BRASIL BRASIL A three-part series from BBC The series offers a detailed account of the years in which Brazilian music has evolved and constantly changed, while capturing the global imagination. Filmed at Brazil's massive carnival celebrations, in the lawless favelas, the extraordinary maracatu ceremonies of the northern countryside, and in the music clubs of Salvador and Rio, these three, hour-long films chronicle Brazilian music from the birth of samba right through to the hip-hop, baile and funk scenes. Episode-1: Samba to Bossa Nova The series starts in the days of slavery, when an estimated 4 million Africans were forcibly moved to Brazil, and traces the development of samba from the poor black areas of Salvador and Rio, where it was initially banned, to its fusion with European styles and its move to the mainstream. The programme follows the career of samba's most successful and glamorous international star, Carmen Miranda, and the growth of the samba schools that dominate the Rio carnival. It traces the fight-back by musicians from the poor Northeast, who used a rival style, forro, to sing about the harsh realities of their lives, and shows how politics helped the development of a sophistcated new samba-jazz fusion, bossanova, from the Fifties, that was to bring international success to Joao Gilberto and Tom Jobim. The programme ends with the military coup that ended the optimistic, easy-going bossa era.

California Zephyr "Vista Dome Adventure" - 1950's Passenger Trains in the USA
1950's promotional film featuring the California Zephyr running between Chicago and San Francisco. The film covers the three railroads the train travelled over with plenty of lineside footage as well as scenes filmed inside the diner, sleeper and vista dome observation cars. From en.wikipedia.org The California Zephyr (the CZ, or "Silver Lady") was a passenger train operated jointly by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad (CB&Q), Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW) and Western Pacific Railroad (WP). The CB&Q, D&RGW and WP christened "The most talked about train in America" on March 19,1949 with the first departure to happen the following day. It was purposely scheduled so that the train passed through the most spectacular scenery in the daylight.

With a width of 50 feet (15 m) at its base and a few hundred feet at its top, and a depth of 1250 feet (380 m) in places, the 10-mile-long canyon is a narrow, steep gorge through the granite of Fremont Peak. It is one of the deepest canyons in Colorado. In the 1890s Royal Gorge was used as a passenger route for transcontinental rail travel. As many as four trains per day went through the gorge, though in time the establishment of alternate routes through the mountains made the Royal Gorge fall from favor for transcontinental use, and passenger train service on the main line was discontinued in 1967.

Yanni kicked off a South American tour in September 2010 that includes Santiago, Chile, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and continuing to Hato Rey, Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo, Domincan Republic in November 2010. The release of a new album Yanni Mexicanisimo is scheduled for October 19, 2010, which is dedicated as a tribute to Mexico, a combination of Mexican music with Yanni's style.Yanni is a self-taught pianist who began his musical career by giving recitals for family members though he had no formal training and could not read music. He was also a competitive swimmer in Greece and set a national record in the 50-meter freestyle competition at the age of 14. At the age of 18 he attended the University of Minnesota. While a student there, Yanni joined an up-and-coming local group called Chameleon where he met drummer Charlie Adams. Chameleon earned some modest commercial success touring throughout the Midwest, particularly in the states of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and South Dakota. After receiving a BA in psychology, he sought a life in music. He moved to Los Angeles, in pursuit of movie soundtrack work. Lima, Peru
Recorded March 6, 2009. Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, on a coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It forms a contiguous urban area with the seaport of Callao. Lima is the 5th largest city in Latin America, behind Mexico City, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. Lima ranks as the 17th most populous city in the world with a population exceeding 8 million. The video begins at the airport and then we drive to the historical center of Lima which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 due to its importance during the colonial era leaving a testimony to architectural achievement. On the way we were able to view many of the wooden balconies for which Lima is famous. We continue our tour on foot at the monastery and church of saint Francis. We then walk to the main square and visit the Cathedral of Lima. Located around the Plaza de Armas is the gigantic Cathedral of Lima, the government building of the peruvian president and several other official buildings. Very special is the fact, that all the buildings are painted in yellow....to have a contrast to the often grey sky. From: timvp.com
