In the course of our marriage, my ex-wife committed numerous crimes of theft and fraud. She was caught once, resulting in a Felony record for her. I pay permanent alimony AND child support. I am happy to support my children, but I believe it is grossly unfair to require me to support a healthy young woman for the rest of my life... even after retirement or if I become disabled! She was 34 and I was 35 when I filed for divorce and I was ordered to pay PERMANENT, LIFETIME ALIMONY to her. Florida is a "no-fault" divorce state, which means that you don't need to prove that the other spouse is at fault to get a divorce. However, judges often choose (erroneously) which spouse is the "bad" spouse, and they punish that one by making him pay for life! Even after becoming disable with Alzheimer's disease (see video here: www.youtube.com ! My ex-wife is an able-bodied woman who is capable of supporting herself. In our divorce order, the judge actually cited her Felony record as a reason why she deserved lifetime, permanent alimony. Who says crime doesn't pay??? We are both 42 now.
