AMS Alpha Omega GT-R Top Speed Record: 233mph Drift!!!
After smashing the GT-R 1/4 mile record at the TX2K12 with an 8.62@173.81mph pass, the Alpha Omega GT-R went straight to the Texas Mile in an attempt to reset the GT-R top speed record of 218mph. FRIDAY The morning was spent preparing the Alpha Omega for tech inspection. A 1/2 mile shakedown pass was performed early afternoon. With much more power than what we had worked with last October, the Alpha Omega was literally flying down the track. Nonetheless, Ivan Phipps, the projects technician and driver for the Alpha Omega kept at it - pulling a 221mph top speed late Friday afternoon which was enough to claim the record! SATURDAY With the absence of wind Saturday morning, the decision was made to press on. The Alpha Omega only used approximately 1050whp of its available 1600whp on Friday's record pass. With approximately 1250whp dialed in, the crew wanted to see if the car could at least break the 230mph barrier before heading home for the weekend. On Saturday's one and only pass down the Mile, Ivan was able to get the Omega to the 1/2 mile marker with a speed of 197mph. The car ran loose with stock aero and absence of a rear wing, but the throttle remained pegged to the floor. Ivan passed the 1 mile marker at 233.1mph. It was a new record for the R35 GT-R, but not without a hitch. The Omega hit a dip in the runway past the mile marker which caused it to bounce. AMS Alpha Omega GT-R at TX2K12: 8.62@173.81mph Record!
With the tracks closed in the Chicagoland area until late April, our annual trip down to the TX2K GT-R Nationals events in March offer us the first opportunity to test new vehicles that we've been working on throughout the winter months. This year, initial testing of the AMS Alpha Omega at the TX2K12 was a definitive success. This was the first time the Omega has ever made an appearance at the drag strip and much was accomplished and learned. SATURDAY On Saturday, the Alpha Omega began on a low boost setting around 24lbs. After that, boost was increased to around 35lbs max and our first clean pass was just short of the record ET by three thousandths of a second (8.79@169mph)! At the end of that pass, one of the intercooler pipes popped, shooting downward at the under tray. This, along with the deployment of the parachute (causing the GT-R to dip) was believed the cause of the lip ripping off the vehicle as seen in the video. Ivan Phipps, our mechanic and driver of the Alpha Omega worked quickly to replace the lip, under tray and bumper so that we could make another pass. The last pass of the day was made just before the lanes closed. Ivan launched hard with a 1.47 60ft, and began losing traction badly a little farther out. Most people at the line thought he would abort with the lanes being so narrow, but he stayed in it and straightened out to break the ¼ mile record with an 8.63@172.15mph pass! AMS Alpha Omega GT-R Dyno Run
This video posted at the request of our friends on NAGTROC.org. We have just made 1600 all wheel horsepower on the recently revealed Alpha Omega GT-R in preparation for the Texas 2K12. We will provide more information on this project after the TX2K12. (The 1600 whp dyno chart in this video illustrates the run after the last one shown on the video).
AMS Alpha 12 R35 GT-R: World Record 9.05@166.66mph
Recently we took our updated ALPHA 12 to the track to do some more testing. As of recent, the limits of the factory block had been reached and our engineers went to work to devise a new way of reinforcing the engine. To prove our new method, we knew we had to put the updated ALPHA 12 package through a series of Grueling tests. The car was placed on the dyno for over three hours in 100 plus degree heat where it produced over 1300whp at 35 psi of boost. Upon completion of dyno testing we took the car to our local drag strip where the weather was not much more favorable. Scorching sun, 90 degree track temps, a density altitude of 2745 and high humidity proved to produce very slick conditions. Still we agreed that the package had to be placed through the most brutal of conditions to ensure the integrity of the new ALPHA 12 package. It was at the track our Special Projects Technician, Ivan Phipps subjected the GT-R to no less than 10 drag passes. The car was run over and over again producing times in the 9.0 to 9.2 range and all over 160mph. The ALPHA 12 GT-R was spinning all four tires all the way through 4th gear on every run and not getting 100% traction until fifth gear. Even in these conditions the AMS ALPHA 12 GT-R was able to reset the ET And MPH with a 9.052@166.66 pass. During that pass, our V-box recorded a verified 60-130mph time of 3.46 seconds making it one of the fastest accelerating street cars ever recorded. The AMS experiment is a state-of-the-art particle physics detector being operated by an international team composed of 60 institutes from 16 countries and organized under United States Department of Energy (DOE) sponsorship. The AMS Experiment will use the unique environment of space to advance knowledge of the universe and lead to the understanding of the universe's origin. The AMS is a high profile space-based particle physics experiment that is led by Nobel laureate Samuel Ting of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Friday May 4th 2012 - We had the opportunity to take one of our ALPHA 12 GT-R's to the track for some testing. This particular ALPHA 12 had just come home from a very in depth media trip to California. In fact it still had its 91 octane tune loaded in. Our tuners Chris and Mitch along with special projects technician and driver Ivan Phipps drove 76 miles to Great Lakes Dragway in neighboring Wisconsin. After multiple 9 second passes by Chris Black, the keys were tossed to Ivan where he blasted off a 9.61@149mph. What makes this pass so impressive is that it was done on the lowest power setting available for the ALPHA 12 on its 91 octane map (for Calfornia Emissions.

AMS Alpha 12: TX2K11 GT-R Dyno Competition 1st Place Finish
This past weekend, AMS brought out the gray Alpha 12, owned by Tim Sanders' to the TX2K11 Nationals to run in the dyno competition and quarter mile at Lonestar Motorsports Park - the backyard of Hennessey Performance. All awd vehicles ran on their Dyno Dynamics dynamometer. The Alpha 12 produced a final AWHP number of 1069, taking first place without having full traction on the rollers! The excessive wheel spin certainly effected the readings and left a nice coating of tire residue on the dyno platform. Our record 9.1 quarter mile video will be up within the next few days so be sure to check back soon!
