Star Trek TNG Ambient Engine Noise (Idling for 24 hrs)
One of my favourite things about the Star Trek franchise are all the great ambient sounds that represent the engine noise on the various ships. My favourite ambient noise from the whole series is the engine idling noise in TNG. I have cleaned up a sample from the show and then looped it for 24 hours. FLARE - kinetic ambient reflection membrane
FLARE is a pneumatic building facade system. The FLARE system consists of a number of tiltable metal flake bodies. An infinite array of flakes can be mounted on any building or wall surface in a modular system of multiplied 4x4 FLARE units. Each stainless steel flake reflects the bright sky or sunlight when in vertical standby position. When the flake is tilted downwards by a computer controlled pneumatic piston, its face is shaded from the sky light and this way appears as a dark pixel. By reflecting ambient or direct sunlight the individual flakes of the FLARE system act like pixels formed by natural light. The system is controlled by a computer to form any kind of surface animation. Sensor systems inside and outside the building communicate the buildings activity directly to the FLARE system which acts as the buildings lateral line. The first of Brian Eno's four albums released formally under the 'Ambient' banner, Music For Airports consists of four compositions designed to be looped as a sound installation within an airport terminal, so as to re-engineer the atmosphere of the space, creating a more relaxed, less anxious environment. For these compositions Eno called upon long-standing collaborators Robert Wyatt and Rhett Davies, working with loops of piano, synthesizer and vocals, all set up to run in and out of phase with one another. The results are marvellous - not to mention hugely influential. Another classic.

Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno[1] (born 15 May 1948), commonly known as simply Brian Eno (pronounced /ˈiːnoʊ/), is an English musician, composer, record producer, music theorist and singer, who, as a solo artist, is best known as one of the principal innovators of ambient music.[2] Eno studied at art school, taking inspiration from minimalist painting, but he had little musical education or playing experience when he joined the band Roxy Music as their keyboards and synthesisers player in the early 1970s. Roxy Music's success in the glam rock scene came quickly, but Eno soon tired of touring, and he left the group after the release of For Your Pleasure (1973), beginning his solo career with Here Come the Warm Jets (1973) and Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) (1974). Eno extended his reach into more experimental musical styles with (No Pussyfooting) (1973) (a collaboration with Robert Fripp), Another Green World (1975) and Discreet Music (1975). His pioneering efforts at "sonic landscapes" began to consume more of his time beginning with Ambient 1/Music for Airports (1978) and later Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks (1983) which was composed for the documentary film For All Mankind.
