*LA DIVINA COMEDIA* de *DANTE ALIGHIERI*
La obra maestra de Dante, La Divina Comedia, la debió comenzar alrededor de 1307 y la concluyó poco antes de su muerte. Se trata de una narración alegórica en verso, de una gran precisión y fuerza dramática, en la que se describe el imaginario viaje del poeta a través del Infierno, el Purgatorio y el Paraíso. Durante su periplo a través del Infierno y el Purgatorio, el guía del poeta es Virgilio, alabado por Dante como el representante máximo de la razón. Beatriz, a quien Dante consideró siempre tanto la manifestación como el instrumento de la voluntad divina, le guía a través del Paraíso. Ya en el siglo XV, muchas ciudades italianas habían creado agrupaciones de especialistas dedicadas al estudio de La Divina Comedia. Durante los siglos que siguieron a la invención de la imprenta, aparecieron más de 400 ediciones distintas sólo en Italia. La epopeya dantesca ha inspirado, además, a numerosos artistas, hasta el punto de que han aparecido ediciones ilustradas por los maestros italianos del renacimiento Sandro Botticelli y Miguel Ángel, por los artistas ingleses John Flaxman y William Blake, y por el ilustrador francés Gustave Doré. El compositor italiano Gioacchino Antonio Rossini y el alemán Robert Schumann pusieron música a algunos fragmentos del poema, y el húngaro Franz Liszt se inspiró en él para componer un poema sinfónico.
