TRAILER - Adaptation. (2002)
Director Spike Jonze delivers a stunningly original comedy that seamlessly blends fictional characters and situations with the lives of real people: obsessive orchid hunter John Laroche (Cooper), New Yorker journalist Susan Orlean (Streep), Hollywood screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Cage), and his twin brother, Donald (also Cage). As Charlie struggles to adapt Orlean's best-selling book "The Orchid Thief," he writes himself into his own movie. The various stories crash into one another exploding into a wildly imaginative film. www.sonypictures.com

"Adaptation." (2002) -- Screenplay Seminar Scene
This scene from 2002's "Adaptation." very well incorporates all clichés of the writing (or any creative) process: the urgent desire to express oneself, the inconfidence appearing when evaluating one's own work, and the apparently self-confident and emotionally strong "outside world": The amount of people gathered in this screenplay-writing seminar illustrates the masses of people wanting to "learn" to write in order to express their feelings - apparently a quite general human desire. The amount of people attending the seminar emphasizes the widespread desire and serves in its abundance to communicate the force of this need. Watch Nicholas Cage's slouched composure and body language, as he plays the humorously oversubscribed (screenplay) writer Charlie Kaufman - a man doubting every aspect of his own existence, and being extremely inconfident. This portrayal contrasts starkly with the (a few moments earlier) self-proclaimed "asshole" seminar teacher (Brian Cox playing screenplay writing guru Robert McKee). He shows much more self-confidence by his much louder voice, his body language (he only looks at the questioner every now and then while the Charlie Kaufman character needs to stare continuously at the teacher) and his improvisation of dramatical scenes. Excerpt from "Adaptation." with Nicholas Cage as Charlie Kaufman and Brian Cox as Robert McKee. Written by Charlie Kaufman (and Donald Kaufman), directed by Spike Jonze, released and copyrighted by Columbia Pictures and ...

SONIC UNIVERSE Animated Adaptation Act 2 - Scourge: LOCK-DOWN
Apologies in advance! I've experienced some unforeseen technical difficulties, post-premiere deadline, but at least it has been resolved now - lesson learnt for next time! Nevertheless I really appreciate your patience. Here are my thoughts that I'd like to share with you all... This is it. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of the SONIC UNIVERSE fandom, a month long project in the making, this was something to be treated with a lot of TLC (tender-loving-care) as a Sonic fan. This video (one of the many successful 'animated adaptation initiatives' that I've produced so far) is probably the BEST I've ever done. It was made for the fans, it's made for the creators, it's made for the team who helped me out and it's made for me. I love comics and I love bringing them to life in this manner... It's so much fun and there is so much to learn from it. This video details my ability to animate, my experience in directing an already existing story and presenting it through an innovative media initiative, it demonstrates my passion and ability to voice-act for entertainment, and finally, the ability to incorporate music, sfxs and voice-overs together in a professional manner. Because of this achievement I am extremely proud of myself and I'm at the point of being very keen to making more animated adaptation videos in future to my most beloved comic & graphic novel series. As you can see, I'm here to not muck around, I want to show you guys a new way of appreciating this already ...

Orson Welles - War Of The Worlds - Radio Broadcast 1938 - Complete Broadcast.
Orson Welles - War Of The Worlds - Radio Broadcast 1938 - Complete Broadcast. The War of the Worlds was an episode of the American radio drama anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air. It was performed as a Halloween episode of the series on October 30, 1938 and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network. Directed and narrated by Orson Welles, the episode was an adaptation of HG Wells' novel The War of the Worlds. The first two thirds of the 60-minute broadcast were presented as a series of simulated "news bulletins", which suggested to many listeners that an actual alien invasion by Martians was currently in progress. Compounding the issue was the fact that the Mercury Theatre on the Air was a 'sustaining show' (it ran without commercial breaks), thus adding to the program's quality of realism. Although there were sensationalist accounts in the press about a supposed panic in response to the broadcast, the precise extent of listener response has been debated. In the days following the adaptation, however, there was widespread outrage. The program's news-bulletin format was decried as cruelly deceptive by some newspapers and public figures, leading to an outcry against the perpetrators of the broadcast, but the episode secured Orson Welles' fame.

Adaptation: starring Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper (best scenes)
Adaptation is a great movie written by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Synecdoche New York). It compares how people adapt to their social environments to how organisms evolve. It is also a discussion of passion, or lack there of, and dislocation. Great performances all around, especially Meryl Streep.

Ho yeah. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2005, there was something called "The VA Jam" - a weekly friendly competition on the voiceacting messageboard I frequent. It was meant to help us hone our skills as actors/mixers/directors etc. One such jam had us adapting several strips from a webcomic of our choosing into audio (or video, if one were so inclined) and that it be no more than 5 minutes long. I choose to do VG Cats, and with a little help of some of my friends (Autumn and Nick Tiner) we did a nice, little clip - one that even made its way to the VG Cats forum community and was quite well-received! And then I promptly forgot about it and went on to other stuff. Couple of years later, I saw that someone had adapted the audio from the VG Cats clip I mixed into a youtube video and I thought "Whoa. That's pretty awesome. I wish I could do that." and then promptly forgot about it and chased after magical rainbows with pots of gold at the end of them. Cut to last month, playing around with Windows Movie Maker (hsssssssssssssss!) I finally figured out "Oh the many snaps! I can do that!" and thus this clip was born! Many, many thanks to Autumn Stroble for agreeing to reprise her role of Aeris after so many ...

The strip I'm most happy about in this special is "#265 - A Magical Wonderland". This was all thanks to the combined efforts of Cody Coleman, Druoxtheshredder and Peter Gresser: Cody for the wonderful Frank Sinatra-styled crooning, Druox for the "Death Metal" Frosty music and voice and Peter Gresser for basically composing a whole new truncated version of "Frosty the Snowman" out of cloth - trying to match the version that Scott used in his strip. The audio mixed together beautifully with hardly any effort at all, and the translation to video was pretty much equally seamless. I love it when everything comes together so. Anyway, many, many, MANY (many) thanks to all my actors and actresses involved in bringing this special to life. Wow, there sure are a lot of you for this 'ere thang.
