Australian Aboriginal Music: Song with Didgeridoo
Here is a sample of the traditional music of the native people of Australia, the so-called Aboriginals (actually several peoples, each with its own language), who possess a most original and beautiful culture and are the heirs of the most ancient wisdom of the world. Enjoy this masterpiece of aboriginal folk music and the fascinating sound of the didgeridoo (the traditional aboriginal wooden "drone pipe")! This song was composed, and is performed and sung by Richard Walley, one of the greatest and most famous Australian Aboriginal composers and musicians.

Tiddalick the Frog - Aboriginal Dreamtime Story
Tiddalick the Frog is an Aboriginal Dreamtime Story from the Murray River Region ofNew South Wales, Australia. Aboriginals believe in two forms of time; two parallel streams of activity. One is the daily objective activity, the other is an infinite spiritual cycle called the "dreamtime", more real than reality itself. Whatever happens in the dreamtime establishes the values, symbols, and laws of Aboriginal society. It was believed that some people of unusual spiritual powers had contact with the dreamtime. "Dreaming" is also often used to refer to an individual's or group's set of beliefs or spirituality. For instance, an Indigenous Australian might say that they have Kangaroo Dreaming, or Shark Dreaming, or Honey Ant Dreaming, or any combination of Dreamings pertinent to their "country". However, many Indigenous Australians also refer to the creation time as "The Dreaming". The Dreamtime laid down the patterns of life for the Aboriginal people. "The Dreaming" was the time of creation. Dreaming stories vary throughout Australia, and there are different versions on the same theme. For example, the story of how the birds got their colours is different in New South Wales and in Western Australia. Stories cover many themes and topics, as there are stories about creation of sacred places, land, people, animals and plants, law and custom. It is a complex network of knowledge, faith, and practices that derive from stories of creation, and which pervades and informs all spiritual ...

Canada celebrates National Aboriginal Day
Sunday June 21 was Canada's 13th National Aboriginal Day. Ceremonies all across the country marked the occasion, celebrating First Nations people, their customs and culture and their accomplishments. Drumming & Song: Little Hawk It is not a coincidence that the day marking the beginning of summer, the Solstice, was chosen for National Aboriginal Day celebrations 13 years ago. Traditional First Nations culture is deeply tied to the turning of the seasons. This year's celebrations were marred by the ongoing flu epidemic in Northern Manitoba, where poverty, over-housing and poor living conditions are the norm. Indeed, the conditions found at St. Teresa Point, Manitoba are not an anomaly. Poverty, poor living conditions, and serious health issues among other issues, continue to dog First Nations peoples in Canada. The status of Canada's First Nations has always been precarious, and has been a source of concern for world bodies, like the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, which said in its report presented to Canada in 2005: "Economic, social and human indicators of well-being, quality of life and development are consistently lower among Aboriginal people than other Canadians. Poverty, infant mortality, unemployment, morbidity, suicide, criminal detention, children on welfare, women victims of abuse, child prostitution, are all much higher among Aboriginal people than in any other sector of Canadian society, whereas educational attainment, health standards, housing ...
Australian Prime Minister attacked by Aboriginal Protesters!
Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott were attending an Australia Day presentation of the inaugural National Emergency Medals at the Lobby Restaurant when protesters who had just marched to commemorate the Aboriginal Tent Embassy's 40th anniversary surrounded the building. Both party leaders were trapped inside for around 20 minutes before police forced a way for their exit , allowing them to leave in the same car. Protesters chased the car down the road, banging on its roof and bonnet. A spokesman for the Prime Minister said Ms Gillard slipped as she was leaving the building. The protesters banged on the three glass sides of restaurant chanting "shame'' and "racist''. At least 50 police, including the riot squad, were called to the scene. The embassy is celebrating a 40-year milestone with a three-day "Corroboree for Sovereignty'', with thousands of indigenous Australians travelling to Canberra for the occasion. Abbott calls on Aboriginal tent embassy to fold Tensions boiled over following comments Mr Abbott made in Sydney earlier in the day. Mr Abbott said he understood why the tent embassy was set up "all those years ago''. "I think a lot has changed for the better since then,'' he said. "We had the historic apology just a few years ago, one of the genuine achievements of Kevin Rudd as Prime Minister. "We had the proposal which is currently for national consideration to recognise indigenous people in the Constitution. "I think the indigenous people of Australia can be very ...

Australian History 101 - Darah (Australian Aboriginal Hip-Hop)
The song is something I wanted to get out for a while now. It is a history of the experiences of my people since colonisation. I feel there is alot of racial tension in Australia which is in part due to lack of knowledge of the history of Aboriginal people in this country. I am hoping that this video can shed some light on what we have been through (and are still going through), to help bridge the gap. Think of it as a Rap-umentary. The newspaper images can be found here: www.kooriweb.org Lyrics: (Chorus x 2) Watch as I unfold for those that don't know, This is a true story, history untold, For every individual, the old and the young, This is Australian History 101, (Verse 1) Welcome to Australia's darkside, People don't know Australian law inspired apartheid, Separation legalised in the so called "Protection Era" Black communities living in terror, From government departments who stole our children, While our men were at work, exploited by real life villians, No cash, surviving on government rations, On the frontier frontline cultures clashing, Aint nobody want to pay the Black man for his labor, Stolen lands, by the beast we got ate up, Rounded up like cattle on missions and reserves, Where we was broken down and forced to serve, Our women disrespected, and life so hectic, They place our children in White homes to get molested, Our brothers in jail cells with long sentences, With no translators, wondering where justice is. (chorus x 2) (verse 2) We needed certificates ...

In just one week of being released onto "You Tube" by the staff at TEABBA Media Services, the video has received rave reviews been given a 5 star rating and has now been viewed well over 15000 times. "The phones have not stopped ringing at the TEABBA offices, all from people who want to know more about the footage," a TEABBA staff member has said "even the honorable Kon Vatskalis with the Territory Labour party has commented on the video and suggested that they perform at the Greek Glenti next year." The Chooky Dancers are a group of 10 energetic young men who had healthy living in mind when they choreographed the performance. Franks son Lionel ...
