The Red Shoes - 1948 - The Ballet Classic
Julian Craster (Marius Goring) is a talented young composer, Vicky Page (Moira Shearer) wants only to dance. Both wish to work with the Ballet Lermontov and Boris Lermontov (Anton Walbrook), who lives only for the ballet, is shrewd enough to hire them both. After shaky starts, they achieve first success when Vicky plays the lead in Craster's 'The Red Shoes' at Monte Carlo. But Lermontov demands total commitment to their art, so when Vicky and Craster fall in love, they must leave the company. They marry. Some time later, Vicky returns to Monte Carlo on holiday. Lermontov relents and she is again to star in 'The Red Shoes'. Unexpectedly, her husband turns up to reclaim her, with tragic consequences. Who but Powell and Pressburger would have the nerve to present an entire ballet, specially written, within a feature film drama? The "Wanna Dance" sequence in "Singin' in the Rain", is, though magnificent, but a bagatelle compared with the "Red Shoes" ballet. The ballet itself is lavishly staged and is a clever cheat, slipping smoothly in and out of the theatre into a world of pure cinema, seeing with the eyes of the audience at one moment, then looking out into an amphitheatre filled with swirling colours. So, too, the more prosaic moments are perfectly rendered, with the wonderful sense of colour and design and costume that is a badge of The Archers. And the dancers! Red Bull's Aerial Ballet: Blaniks & Wingsuits
Red Bull Wednesday shared video of one of its latest sponsored adventures -- five wingsuit skydivers joining up with and maintaining formation with two sailplanes in a dive over Austria. The team flew two aerobatic LET L-13 Blanik sailplanes and just to complicate things the lead flew inverted. The skydivers and gliders came together in formation at roughly 12000 feet. The sailplanes wore wingtip mounted smoke canisters and one skydiver wore one on an ankle. The trick of the task was mating airspeed and descent rates and this time all members performed flawlessly. Generally, wingsuits manage their best glide (roughly 2.5:1) at close to 75 mph. The Blaniks are a 1950's era metal design and manage close to 30:1 at about 55. For the stunt, the team found a common airspeed closer to 110 mph, found and held formation with the requisite precision.

The Freeds did not work for me but i really like the Suffolk. Took home the Solo Light and tomorrow having the Solo Prequel brought down from Dancer's Choice to see which I like best! As you now know the Russian Pointes weren't the best shoe for me - at least for now. Feet change apparently !

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Eisenhower Theater "¡Noche Latina! was a high energy fiesta... you knew this wasn't going to be an ordinary night in the theater"~The Washington Post The Washington Ballet closes its 2011.12 season with "¡Noche Latina!", an all-NEW mixed repertory program celebrating Latin music and dance. The three movement program includes the world premieres of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's "Sueno de Marmol" and Edwaard Liang's "La Ofrenda (The Offering)", and the company premiere of Trey McIntyre's" Like a Samba", May 9-13 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Eisenhower Theater. Latina diva, Totó la Momposina, and band will perform live during the first intermission of every performance. Internationally renowned Spanish painter and sculptor, Cristóbal Gabarrón, will create the scenic elements and masks for Edwaard Liang's new ballet which is based on the "Day of the Dead." The set sculptures will later be sold to raise money to support the Company's Latino dancers and outreach programs. I hope that I won't miss home and mama so much this year. Mother: I decided immediately she would dance ballet, so when she was a month old she was already doing splits. Upper turnout, lower turnout: she always had good feet. I checked them when she was born. At four I planned to give her to ballet, but they didn't take children so young then. It is only now that they do. Not then, only five year old children. They told to come back in a year, and I came back in exactly a year. April 20 she was five, and April 21 we went to the ballet school. OS: A new page in my diary. The new school year. Where do I start? Maybe with the fact that the most hated day is approaching. I hate September 1! Because only now it's realized that vacation is over, and how long and hard the year ahead is. Now we're real students and have to study twice as hard.
