On a technical note The entire video was shot on a Canon 7D, all in 720P, at 60fps (frames per second). I used a couple different Canon lenses to shoot this, they were... Canon 70-200 F/2.8 Canon 100-400 F/4/5.6 Canon 2X III Extender (this makes the lens when it is at 400mm, become 800 mm's. It does loose some quality, but it's not very noticeable.) The entire video was shot all on the North Shore, at Pipeline, and Waimea for the big waves. To get the "super slow motion", after I filmed at 60fps, I through it into the program "After Effects". I used an effect that comes with the program called "Time Warp". This allowed me to make the 60fps, to 1000fps. The way this works is the computer processes/adds frames in between the frames that are already in existence. It took several days for the computer to process the clips into ...
Gray 1 Short film; Canon 7D
Just wanted to share this with anyone who is interested in buying a wonderful new Canon 7D. I got mine a week ago and I finally had a chance to go out and shoot something yesterday. I have a friend who is a WW2 reenactor (The German soldier) and he was heading over mine for the weekend anyway. I told him to bring his stuff so I could test out the 7D at taking photos, when we got there we thought we might as well do some video too. So this is what came out of us messing around for an hour. Its all hand held so there is a little jellow cam going on and I was just using the LCD on the back for monitoring, so focus aint so great either. All in all I'm pleased with it. Took an hour to shoot and half a day to edit, and another bloody half a day to render! All shot with the Canon 7D hand held (no rig) and the Canon EF 50mm 1.8. Shot at 1080p 24p Graded with magic bullet All sound done in post.
Bluebirds with Canon 7D and 500mm
I don't want to do anyone a disservice my making this appear "easy". Finding the right perch, getting the bird to land on the perch at the right spot, placement of the perch....etc...becomes very tedious. I experimented with a few different perches after this video. Canon 7D - DSLR 126 LED Video Photo Light
The 126 LED Video/Photo light is available on Ebay for around $56 US (price is less now, this was back in 2010). I purchased from Ebay seller "yespainting". It took approx. 2 weeks to have the Light delivered to the US East Coast. Light puts out 650 lumens according to the manufacturer. I use the light with my Canon 7D for video and photos and it works great.Also, since the light uses LED's, it does not get hot. Highly recommended! I used a Zoom H4 recorder with an Audio Technica Lav mic for the audio in this video, then sync'd using Sony Vegas Pro 9. This light is a knockoff of the Lite Panels Micro.

DSLR Actionfilm (Canon 550D/Rebel t2i/7D)
After using my Canon 550D/Rebel t2i for shooting different project the past months, I decided that I wanted to make an actionfilm to test it even more. I bought a new lens for my camera: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM, and a field sound recorder: Zoom ZOH4NK H4n and a boompole so I could record much better sound, and get closer to the object with the shotgun microphone. We filmed everything during one day with a Canon 7D and Canon EOS 550D on homemade shoulder-rigs, and used only natural light (the sun and the existing lamps on location). I used Final Cut Pro to edit the film and Color to colorcorrect. I added blood bursts, muzzle flashes, gun-shells and so on in After effects. I've read a lot about the quirks of this plug-in from other people on vimeo and various web-sites, and decided to test it in tricky detailed situations as well to see where it would and wouldn't hold up. I know there are things that aren't perfect with the use of twixtor in this video for those of you that are looking for artifacts and such, but I was pleasantly surprised with the leaf footage which was shot assuming that twixtor would slaughter the footage. Some of it was unusable, but I had better luck than I had anticipated. As you've all probably heard before, the less detail the better. (I should have maybe thought about that before wearing that winter coat of crazy colours) haha *everything was shot with shutter speeds between 1/1000 & 1/2000 and slowed down to either 3% or 5%* I'm going to be doing some more twixtor tests with other footage I have shot over the past week, so I'm sure I'll be learning more.
