And so we continue to delve into one of the rarest recording sessions in jazz history: The Complete Comet Records Session by Red Norvo and his Selected Sextet. The second officially released cut, entitled ""Slam Slam" Blues"". Just a one-off session, swing really does meet bop here. :) What makes this an intriguing listen is Bird's solos in this and the alternate take that will follow - it's like listening to the development of "Parker's Mood" - 3 years before he recorded it. :) The personnel for this June 6, 1945 session are: Red Norvo - vibraphone Dizzy Gillespie - trumpet Charlie Parker - alto sax Flip Phillips - tenor sax Teddy Wilson - piano Slam Stewart - bass JC Heard - drums Dig.....

This one's for fellow YouTube users "The SwingShift" and "RICKROLLBLENDER" - got some good, rich sound out of this one, folks. LARRY ADLER - 'Genevieve' - 1953 78rpm
Respected harmonica man Larry's famous theme for the classic British film of the same name. 'Genevieve' was a 1904 Darracq car driven by John Gregson and Dinah Sheridan, who enter it in the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. Much dastardly rivalry develops between friends Kenneth More and Kay Kendall in their Spyker car, wagering a race to the finish. 'Genevieve' is still going strong today, and lives in Australia fully restored

Music Video - Danse Macabre (Silent Film & 78rpm)
This is the first Music Video I have ever made. I have some 16mm films, (mostly produced in 1950s) and recently I found out that one of them is a nice short film named Danse Macabre. According to the information on IMDb, this film was produced in 1922, starring Adolph Bolm, a famous Russian ballet dancer and choreographer of that time. So, I made a Music video, using a 78rpm record from my collection, Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre, with Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra with Leopold Stokowski Conducting, Recorded in 1925. (Correction from 1924) As far as I know, this is the very first electrically-made Orchestral recording in the world. Hope you'll enjoy this.

78rpm Restoration - Larry Clinton Jeepers Creepers HMV
Now before I start getting technical about this and other 78 restorations let me tell you a bit about why I'd even attempt to do this. Im a big fan of the Big Bands to the point I've spent more than 10 years presenting "Swing Type" Radio shows showcasing top swing bands of the day (and today!) playing arrangements that are SOLID! not the same old same old "In the mood" "Sing Sing Sing" stuff oh no sir, in over 1000+ shows I've not trotted out the old "standards" but played top arrangements that you may have never heard. In doing this I would pull out old LP's and Buy loads of CD's, Now i used to get VERY VERY annoyed when I'd hear a 78 that had A LOT of "Work" on it. to the point that all the "Top End" was gone. OK it takes most of the "scratchyness" away yes i agree, but it also kills the music FULL STOP. Now when i was a lad and played 78's quite a bit, If some mad scientist offered me a device that would take away 10 say 20 percent of the surface noise I'd have paid the earth!!.. so now 20 years later why do people think that if its not "clinical clean" Its not a good job?!?!? Well let me tell you as a Audio engineer AND a Muso that almost 70% of my 1000's of CD's are pretty much Junk to my ears. OK Ok you might think I'm mad at this point but when i hear a Sax section sound like it's underwater you might know what i mean. so i spent a few good years recerching how would be the best way to play and clean these 78's for my radio shows. after reading 40 years (1939-1980 ...

Hank Williams - Ramblin Man - 78rpm record
Hank Williams (the best singer songwriter to record country music in history) - Ramblin Man - MGM 78rpm record released in 1953 lyrics: I can settle dow-own and be doin' just fine Till I hear an old train rollin' down the line Then I hurry straiaight home and pack And if I didn't go, I believe I'd blow my stack I love you ba-aby, but you gotta understand When the lord made me He made a ramblin' man. Some folks might say that i'm no good That i wouldn't settle down if I could But when that open road starts to callin' me There's somethin' over the hill that I gotta see Sometimes it's hard but you gotta understand When the lord made me, he made a ramblin' man. I love to see the towns a-passin' by And to ride these rails 'neath god's blue sky Let me travel this land from the mountains to the sea 'cause that's the life I believe he meant for me And when i'm gone and at my grave you stand Just say god called home your ramblin' man. **be sure to check out my other 78's!**

It may have even been reissued under the American Record banner the following month. Carl Perkins - Boppin' The Blues // Sun 78 RPM
Sun #243 From May 1956 (C.Perkins/H.Griffin) This tune was co-authored by Curley Griffin.A neighbour of Carl in Jackson TN.Griffin was a DJ and also did songwriting and stage performences. I think mr. Griffin are most known for us musiclovers for his song "Got Rockin' On My Mind" on the Atomic label. The rumour says it to be Carl Perkins doing lead guitar on that session. The guitar accompaniment to Griffin's voice many times sounds pretty much Perkins, i personally think.
CONWAY TWITTY - 'It's Only Make Believe' - 1958 78rpm
The song some believed to be Elvis, was written between sets by Harold Jenkins (aka Conway Twitty) and drummer Jack Nance when they were in Hamilton, Ontario, playing at the Flamingo Lounge. The record took nearly one year to reach the top spot on Billboard, as well as #1 in 21 other countries

Original UK 78 RPM edition (London American Recording HLU.8580) played on my Olivetti Tube Record Player, "Tequila" is a 1958 rock instrumental by "The Champs". The title of the song constitutes the entire lyrics, and is spoken three times during the song. Heavily referenced in American Popular Culture, "Tequila" became a number-one hit on both the pop and R&B charts and remains popular amongst fans of the golden age of Rock 'n' Roll.

Bo Diddley 'Bo Diddley' Checker 78rpm

Bo on guitar, Otis Spann on piano, Lester Davenport on harp, Frank Kirkland on drums and Jerome Green on maracas this all time classic was released in March 1955. Always loved the story of when Bo and the boys went on the Ed Sullivan show in November 1955 and were expected to perform the Tennesse Ernie Ford hit '16 Tons' but when they went on they sung this record instead and were never asked back !
