Boeing 747-8F Performs Ultimate Rejected Take-off
Imagine you're driving at the maximum speed allowed on a major highway and you have to suddenly stop the car. In April, a fully-loaded 747-8 Freighter with worn-out brakes attempted an aborted takeoff on a California runway. The rejected takeoff or maximum brake energy test is one of the most dramatic for a new airplane. It's basically what Boeing test pilot Captain Kirk Vining had to do recently with the new 747-8 Freighter during one of the most dramatic airplane certification tests. However, instead of a 4000-pound (1815 kilograms) car, the 747-8 weighed in at close to one million pounds. "In the emergency event that we have to make a rejected takeoff at these heavy weights, it takes a long distance for the airplane to stop," says Capt. Vining. The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and 747-8 Freighter are the new, high-capacity 747s that offer the lowest operating costs and best economics of any large passenger or freighter airplane. Both are on track to make their first deliveries later this year after certification. To simulate the ultimate rejected takeoff (RTO), crews loaded the airplane above its maximum takeoff weight of 975000 pounds and installed a set of 100% worn-out brakes. In April, the Boeing Test & Evaluation team brought the 747-8 Freighter to a long runway in California to simulate the ultimate rejected takeoff (RTO). Crews loaded the airplane above its maximum takeoff weight of 975000 pounds (443181 kilograms) and installed a set of 100% worn-out brakes ...

Boeing 747-8F goes on roller coaster flight
A flight loads survey is often compared to a long roller coaster ride because of the sudden and dramatic ups and downs during the flight. And because of those extreme maneuvers, it is one of the most grueling tests for a new airplane, including those monitoring onboard.

New Boeing 747-8 British Airways World Cargo 7478F G-GSSF First revenue Departure London Stansted
G-GSSF was the third Boeing 747-8F on order by Atlas Air, delivered to Global Supply Systems and operated on behalf of British Airways World Cargo. The aircraft left Seattle en-route to Hong Kong, prior to a flight to Delhi. The first scheduled arrival into Stansted was at 6:10am on Friday 30th December 2011. Despite a VERY early start for me, I arrived at the airport in the dark only to receive a message saying the flight was delayed by 3 hours! With other engagements I wasn't able to capture the arrival (see my other video for G-GSSD landing), however I did return in the afternoon and literally as we pulled up, GSSF had been pushed back so it was a very mad panic to get all the equipment setup in time for the takeoff. I was surprised that the aircraft was so much quieter, sure when it goes past it's loud, but there didn't seem so much of the ongoing roar after departure. Additionally, I thought on throttle up that the engines sounded a little like a 777. Anyway I hope you enjoy the video and please remember to view my other Youtube First of the arrival of G-GSSD here www.youtube.com

Space Shuttle Enterprise Removed from 747 Carrier Aircraft
At John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York, space shuttle Enterprise was removed from NASA's 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) early Sunday morning. Enterprise will be placed on a barge that will move by tugboat up the Hudson River to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in June. The shuttle will be lifted by crane and placed on the flight deck of the Intrepid, where it will be on exhibit to the public starting this summer in a temporary climate-controlled pavilion. The Intrepid continues to work on a permanent exhibit facility to showcase Enterprise that will enhance the museum's space-related exhibits and education curriculum.

Boeing 747-8 makes a big splash!
This water safety test is one of the many requirements the new Boeing 747-8 Freighter must plow through on the road to certification. "We do the water spray test so we can tell whether or not -- if an airplane is going through standing water -- the water actually gets ingested into the engines because that would be bad", says 747-8 Flight Test manager Andy Hammer.

Air India 747 Action at LAX
More 747 activity at LAX than you can shake a stick at! I think i kinda knew Air India wouldn't be here long..so I really wrapped them up. I mean i shot the entire 747 fleet as it rotated thru LAX. I even racked up a good deal in places like London and Frankfurt. If I added that footage in..you'd never get to work on time. The ships seen in this clip are: VT-AIC VT AID VT-AIM VT-ESP VT-EVJ ...all EXCEPT VT-ESP have since left the fleet. They certainly looked good when they were there doing their duty. VT-AIM is the one that was always on crutches..if you know what I mean...
