This entire film was filmed on the island of Kauai over a 9 day period. The first 3 days were spent hiking the Napali coast, a 11 mile hike along the coast. We did this for 3 days. After this we spent 2 more days exploring the island. I did this with 8 other friends. After the 5 days were up with them, they all flew back to Oahu where everyone was living, and I stayed on the island on my own for 4 more days. I had a rental truck, that's how I got around. I didn't want to spend money on hotels though, so I slept in the truck, in a Walmart parking lot for the other 4 nights. A lot of cars get broken in on the island of Kauai, according to rumors, so that's why I would camp in the parking lots, so I was a lot more exposed if someone tried to break in where I was sleeping That way i wouldn't get robbed, raped, or murdered, ha. At night when I got done filming, I would go into the only Walmart on the island, where they also have a McDonald's, and I would bum off there wi-fi with my ipod touch, and plot my path for the next day, then I would head out before the break of dawn every morning, and I would get back after sunset to do it all over again. HDR Video Demonstration Using Two Canon 5D mark II's
This video highlights several clips we've made using our new High Dynamic Range (HDR) process. Video is captured on two Canon 5D mark II DSLRs, each capturing the exact same subject via a beam splitter. The cameras are configured so that they record different exposure values, eg, one camera is overexposed, the other underexposed. After the footage has been recorded, we use a variety of HDR processing tools to combine the video from the two cameras, yielding the clips you see above. HDR Video provides filmmakers with many exciting new opportunities. Not only can HDR video create interesting effects, it can also allow for even exposure where artificial lighting is unavailable or impractical. For example, when a subject is backlit, one camera could be set to properly expose the subject, the other the sky, resulting in video with perfect exposure throughout. We spent 10 days on Vancouver. Most of that time was spent in one of my favorite places, Barkley Sound. It's an area with 150 islands in a 5 mile radius. We canoed from one island to the next, camping on them. On a technical side, it was all shot on the Canon 5D Mark II. Most of the shots were done with the Canon 16-35mm 2.8 L Series. A Nikon 50mm 1.8 adapter, and a Nikon 70-200 2.8 with Canon/Nikon lens adapter. The smooth shots were done with a glidecam 2000. I will do a blog post on it later today if I have time. PRICES: www.bhphotovideo.com I'm really excited for the Canon announcement tonight. Not sure what it is, but everyone is thinking it is about the new Canon 5D Mark III. I have used the Canon T2i for the past two years and I have really enjoyed using it, but I think I am ready to step up to a full frame camera. I am not alone, I can see on the forums that many are ready to step up to a full frame as well. Once I get a full frame camera then I think I will be investing in some nice glass. I have some money set aside for a new camera and I am ready to pull the trigger. But in order for me to shell out $3500 for a new 5D, I am looking for Canon to fix some of the following issues. Moire/Aliasing - this is the number one thing I hope they fix, I can't tell you how many of my shots have been ruined by this. Headphone jack - this should be the easiest feature for them to add. I would love this for interviews so I can monitor the audio while I ask questions. Considering that Nikon has already done this, my bet is Canon will have this too. Tilt out screen - great for low shots. 1080 at 60fps - I don't think this is going to happen, but I can be hopeful. Either improve the compression codec or provide a clean HDMI out - many people are saying that ...

www.learningdslrvideo.com Ryan Connolly did good comparison of these cameras some time ago, but since I like to do my own testing I thought I would run some similar tests. I found similar results to what Ryan found, except I didn't see that the T2i was more saturated than the 5D. Color and saturation are so similar you could easily mix both footage You might be asking, "Dave, why are you comparing the 5D mark II to the 550D when the mark 3 is coming soon? Yes it is true that the 5D in terms of features almost feels historic when compared to it's little cropped frame brothers when it lacks a ton of cool features like focus points faster shutter drive a level built in zoom, tilt out screen. But the reason the 5D is Canon's flag ship product for professionals is because of the full frame.

Canon 5D Mark II - "The Big Island"
Marika and I were on the Big Island of Hawaii for two weeks working. We traveled all over getting shots and this is sort of a "best of" montage! Magic Lantern with CBR at 3.0x was used for most of the shots. Some timelapses used the FPS override function at 4fps and several HDR shots at Exposures of ISO 100-1600 were used.
