Air France A380 landing on 24R at YUL

On October 7th,2010, Air France sent the A380 to Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport to celebrate 60 years of service to YUL. This is a video of the approach and landing on runway 24R. Quite a bit of spray is kicked up by the thrust reversers as it had rained earlier in the afternoon. Though this is a one time visit in 2010 of the A380, Air France will be using the A380 on the CDG-YUL route on a daily basis as of the spring of 2011.

Royal Air Maroc 744 departs YUL on 24R

Here we see a rare visitor to Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport, a Royal Air Maroc 747-400. This video was just taken this morning (Jan 10th, 2009) and I had to brave -15°C (5°F) temperatures in order to capture this rare sight. It was well worth it though. With almost no wind as well as cold & stable air, this 747 gets off the ground in a amazingly short distance. If you look carefully at the fuselage, you may be able to see some of the lime green de-icing fluid that was applied to the aircraft prior to departure.

Royal Jordanian A342 departs YUL on 24R

A Royal Jordanian A340-200 departs Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport on runway 24R. This aircraft eats up a lot of the runway as it's full of fuel for it's 11 hour flight back to Amman, Jordan.

AC 77W C-FIVS departing YUL on 24R in HD

Here we see what is probably a favorite amongst spotters in Canada, C-FIVS. Here it is seen departing for Paris on runway 24R at Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport. This aircraft has been painted with decals representing the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. You don't see the airplane at the beginning of the video as the start of the runway is behind a building. Even so, I wanted to capture the awesome sound of the GE90-115b's spooling up. It's a sound that is hard to beat.

JAL B744 landing on 24R at YUL

Japan Airlines is back at Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport again this year with their special fall colours charter flights. This is the second of three JAL 747-400 flights arriving on runway 24R around lunchtime.

AF B77W departing YUL on 24R

This is Air France flight AF345 departing Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport on runway 24R on it's way to Paris. You can clearly hear the distinctive spool up sound of the GE90-115b engines found on the Boeing 777-300ER. I really love hearing those engines.

KLM MD-11 landing on 24R at YUL in the rain

It's not often that I go spotting while it's raining due ot the fact that it's generally unpleasant. However, it does have it's rewards. An example is the amazing amount of water spray generated by this KLM MD-11 as it lands on runway 24R at Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport. If you look closely, you will also see quite a bit of condensation forming on the wings as it approaches the runway. For those wondering what happened to the previous KLM video I uploaded before this one, I deleted it as I realized after that I had uploaded the wrong video. The description did not match the video. This is the video I meant to upload.

Air Berlin (LTU) A332 departing YUL on 24R

Here we see and Air Berlin (formally LTU) A330-200 departing Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport on runway 24R. This was one two Air Berlin flights to YUL on this day to bring German tourists to the north eastern part of North America for a fall colours cruise.

Air France B77W departing YUL on 24R

Here we see an Air France B777-300ER departing Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport on runway 24R. On the day this video was taken, there was a brief rainshower which resulted in a wet runway a lot of spray being kicked up by the GE90-115b engines. The video is shaky at the beginning as it was very windy making it hard to hold the camera steady. I wish I had used my tri-pod.

Air Canada 762 depart's YUL on 24R

The month of November saw the end of the 767-200 flights for Air Canada. All of their 767-200's have now been retired. As a tribute to an aircraft that has served Air Canada and Canadians very well for around 25 years, I have posted the last video I took of an Air Canada 767-200 departing Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport. This video, taken on september 24th, 2008 shows one of Air Canada's 762's departing on runway 24R and flying into the sunset.

Volga Dnepr AN-124 arriving on runway 24R at YUL

An Antonov AN-124, one of the world's largest cargo aircraft, is seen on final for runway 24R at Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airpot. Only the Antonov AN-225 is larger than this beast. A rare sight at YUL as most cargo flights land at Mirabel Airport (YMX) north of Montreal.

Air France B77W departing YUL on 24R in the rain

Here we seen an Air France B777-300ER departing Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport on runway 24R. Not the best weather for spotting but the reward is lots of condensation in the GE90-115b engines as well as on the wings once the aircaft becomes airborne.

Olympic A343 departs YUL on 24R

Olympic A340-300 departs Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport on runway 24R bound for Athens. One of the first versions of the A340 series, the 300 variant is known for being underpowered. This very heavy aircraft uses almost 11000 ft of runway and works hard to gain altitude once airborne. ATC communication has been included in the background.

Air Algerie A332 departs YUL on 24R

An Air Algerie A330-200 is seen here departing YUL on runway 24R. Air Algerie started serving Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport in 2007. They initially started out with twice weekly flights then increased it to 3 flights a week in 2008. They recently announced that as of next summer, they will be increasing the freguency to 4 flights a week. Good to see that things appear to be going well for them at YUL.

Lufthansa A346 departs YUL on runway 24R

For the Montreal Grand Prix in June of this year, Lufthansa sent an A340-600 instead of the usual A330-300. This increase in capacity was to bring Grand Prix participants back to Europe. Watch now as the world's longest commercial aircraft departs Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport on runway 24R.

A380 departs YUL on runway 24R

Finally here it is. Something I have waited a long time to see. The Airbus A380 makes it's first ever take-off from Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport. A very big, graceful and quiet bird. This is aircraft MSN #007 (7th A380 to roll off the assembly line), with tail number F-WWJB and appropriately nicknamed "James Bond". This A380 belongs to Airbus but is being operated by an Air France crew. It's on route to Orlando International Airport (MCO) but will be back in Montreal on Thursday morning. It will return to France (CDG) leaving Montreal late evening on Thursday. What a priviledge it is to have such a historical aircraft make a stop in Montreal. Sure hope Air France follows through with their plans to use it on their YUL-CDG route (maybe in 2009).

15 minutes at LAX (Spotting 24R)

One of the rare occasions that I'm not shooting military (or government agency) aviation videos... For those of you that have never been to LAX in your travels, this just goes to show what an amazing volume of traffic comes in and out of LAX in a short period of time. Dallas Ft Worth, Atlanta, Phoenix Sky Harbor, Minneapolis St Paul are all busy airports I've been to and are very similar to LAX, but LAX gets all the normal commercial flights PLUS all the trans-Pacific and other international flights, both PAX and cargo. My wife was at a coworker's wedding in Carson, CA (urban suburb of LA) and I came along. But I of course decided to sneak out and take a real quick detour to the infamous In-N-Out burger on Sepulveda Blvd; one of the best and most well known locations to "spot" heavy commercial flights. Not to mention that famous California favorite (the Double Double). If you haven't had one, you'd better try one on your next California visit. ;) I only spent 15 minutes there on this occasion, and what you see in this video is what flew during those 15 minutes. A mix of 747s, 737s, 757s, 767s, 777s, Airbus A319/320, A340, commuter jet and prop. The only editing I did was to compress the small amount of dead time and get the video down to 10 minutes. LAX is so busy I could have just posted the video in it's complete state and there would have been no need to cut anything otherwise! Even more amazing is you're only seeing half the activity (24L and 24R). Like most giant ...

CC-150 Polaris landing on runway 24R at YUL with Duke & Duccess of Cambridge on board

Here we see a CC-150 Polaris landing on runway 24R at Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport. This aircraft was carrying the Duke and Duccess and Cambridge (William and Kate) and therefore went by the call sign of Royal 3. They came to Montreal on July 2nd as part of their Canadian tour. Pretty cool that they picked Canada for their first official trip as a married couple. On a side note, the CC-150 Polaris is basically a military version of an Airbus A310.

AF 744 landing on 24R at YUL

For the last post of 2008, a favorite of spotters at YUL. An Air France 747-400 landing on runway 24R at Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport. Over the next few years, Air France will be retiring the passenger version of their 747's. So 2009 may be the last year to see this jumbo at YUL. Sad but the arrival of the A380 planned for 2010 kind of makes up for it.

AC B773 landing on 24R at YUL in the rain

Here we see an Air Canada B777-300ER landing on runway 24R on a very raining and windy day at Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. This video was taken quite a while ago when thie particular B77W (reg. #C-FIVS) still had the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic stickers on. I struggle a bit with the zoom and keeping the aircraft in focus as I was holding the video camera in one hand while hold an umbrella in the other. Quite a challenge when it's as windy as it was that day.

Continental B739 Retro Colours departing YUL on 24R

We had a nice visitor to YUL recently. This Continental B737-900 in retro colours came to Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International airport as a special charter. Here we see it departing on runway 24R. It's very rare to see a B739 at YUL and even more rare to see one in retro-colours. I was therefore quite happy to get this one on video.

Makita HR2810 and Boyai BY2.24R rotary hammer quick review.

Most of the time I only use 6mm masonry drill bit, but for this review I drill into concrete block using a cheap 15 mm masonry drill bit. This will clearly shows the power of both rotary hammers. Scene 1 : Boyai BY2.24R 24mm rotary hammer. Cheap China made rotary hammer with decent quality for it's price (MYR200 or around 70 USD). Trigger is quite stiff, Noise/sound level is slightly higher. It took 20 seconds to drill the hole at certain depth. Specs: 680 W, 0-970 rpm. Pistol grip Scene 2 : Makita HR2810, my reference rotary hammer. It is 28 mm 3 kg class rotary hammer. Very comfortable and smooth. It took around 15 seconds. Specs: 800W, 0-1100 rpm, 4500 bpm, L shaped. General conclustion: Bigger or powerful rotary hammer can drill faster. Feel free to read our discussions at forum.lowyat.net Thank you.

Zoom 763 departs YUL on 24R

With Zoom ceasing operations this past week I thought it would be appropriate to post the last video I took of a Zoom aircraft. Here we see one of Zoom's 767-300's departing Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport on runway 24R. This video was taken on June 24th, 2008. Little did I know then that it would be the last time I would get to film a Zoom aircraft in operation.
