Various sources have the release date incorrect or assumed as 1911-1912, but the actual release year was 1913. Only the starting and ending points of creation would be earlier. Due to the quality of film I had to work with, it is fully intact, however, the textual elements were removed. (NO, it is not supposed to be BLUE, as I have seen poorly edited versions. This is the original intended black and white film.) A silent film, but I replaced the cutaway titles with overlay. I kept the same dialogue as it's original lower quality version. I enhanced the image and it became a wonderful dreamlike state. Since there was no audio, I created a layered audio effect with elements from the Edward Scissorhands soundtrack. Composer, Danny Elfman: amzn.to "Froeliche Weinachten" appears in the animation near the end, however, they should have spelled it "Froehliche Weihnachten", which is German for "Merry Christmas". Vladislav Starevich (1882 - 1965), born Władysław Starewicz (Russian: Владисла́в Алекса́ндрович Старе́вич), was a Polish stop-motion animator who used insects and animals as his protagonists. One great landmark in the history of Pathe scoops was one of their cameras capturing the extreme sacrifice by the suffragette Emily Davison. In the blink of an eye, Davison runs from the crowds and throws herself under the King's horse. Crowds of people run on to the track to try and help both the fallen rider and Davison. Davison died several days later in hospital. Sid James (1913-1976)
Sid James (born Solomon Joel Cohen; 8th May 1913 - 26th April 1976) was a South African, British-based actor and comedian, who made his name as Tony Hancock's co-star in Hancock's Half Hour and also starred in the popular Carry On films. He was known for his trademark "dirty laugh" and lascivious persona. In 1967, James was intending to play Sergeant Nocker in Carry On Follow That Camel, but suffered a massive heart attack and was replaced by the American comic actor Phil Silvers. In the same year in Carry On Doctor James was shown mainly lying in a hospital bed, owing to his real-life health scare. Meanwhile his success in TV situation comedies continued, now heading the cast, notably in Taxi!, George and the Dragon, Two In Clover, and Bless This House. He suffered a heart attack on 26th April 1976, during the opening night of The Mating Season at the Sunderland Empire Theatre. The technical manager (Melvyn James) called for the curtain to close and requested a doctor, whilst the audience (unaware of what was happening) laughed, believing the events to be part of the show. He was taken to hospital by ambulance, but it was too late. James, then 62, was cremated and his ashes scattered at Golders Green Crematorium. PUBLIC DOMAIN News item.

James (Big Jim) Larkin (Irish: Séamas Ó Lorcáin)(1874-1947), an Irish trade union leader and socialist activist, was born in Liverpool, England on 28 January 1874, of Irish parents. Growing up in poverty, he had little formal education and began working in a variety of jobs while still a child before becoming a full-time trade union organiser in 1905. He moved to Ireland in 1907, where he founded the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union, the Irish Labour Party, and later the Workers' Union of Ireland. Perhaps best known for his role in the 1913 Dublin Lockout, "Big Jim" continues to occupy a significant place in the collective memory of Dublin. Larkin's family lived in the slums in Liverpool during the early years of his life, and from the age of seven he attended school in the mornings and worked in the afternoons to supplement the family income - a common arrangement in working-class families at the time. At the age of fourteen, after the death of his father, he was apprenticed to the firm his father had worked for, but was dismissed after two years. He was unemployed for a while and then worked as a seaman and docker. By 1903 he was a dock foreman, and on 8 September that year he married Elizabeth Brown. From 1893 Larkin had developed an interest in socialism, and he became a member of the Independent Labour Party. In 1905 he was one of the few foremen to take part in a strike on the Liverpool docks. "Marcheta" in THEY WERE EXPENDABLE
"Marchéta" (pronounced Mar-KEE-ta) is a 1913 "love song of Old Mexico" written by the American composer Victor Schertzinger when he was but 25 years old. These days all of the versions to be found on modern CD are either overwrought ballads by male vocalists like Al Jolson and Mario Lanza, or else corny "cha-cha" dance instrumentals. However, , when played in waltz-time, as a serious orchestral love song, it becomes an achingly beautiful theme. Director John Ford made "Marchéta" one of the emotional linchpins of his 1945 film THEY WERE EXPENDABLE. It is first played when Rusty Ryan (John Wayne) attends a hospital dance on Corregidor in the Philippines, and falls in love with a nurse there. Much later in the film, as Bataan falls and Corregidor (where his lover is stationed) is being bombed and starved into submission by the Japanese, a poignant reprise of the song appears on the radio as Wayne is getting drunk in an island bar, reminding him of his night of dancing with her in the darkness as he realizes he'll never see her again. The song is utilized expertly by Ford in THEY WERE EXPENDABLE, and would stick with John Wayne for the rest of his life. Ford always had an accordionist on his set named Danny Borzage, who would often play mood music during scenes to help the actors find the right tone. Borzage would also create an intimate sense of family among the cast and crew by playing favorite themes whenever John Ford or a member of his stock company appeared on set ...
